I agree,if Six Flags wants to be a family park company then they need to change thier name and start over. The Six Flags name is too synonomous with thrills and teens.

Unfortunatly they'll probably just dismantle their rides and move them elsewhere, it's gonna look like the local county fair leaving town. I like MM once every 5 or 6 years, but really I just go to Disneyland, and occasionally I'll go to DCA or USH to mix things up, I'm just crazy like that

the one thing that will be sad is that if they do dismantle it they will most likely save all the new coasters and relocate them. I have a feeling that many of the older classic will just be destroyed.
Colussus
gold rush
revolution
are three that would most likely not be relocated since they are old and not worht the money they would need.
I think what they need to consider first is selling some of the excces land first. Maybe even make the park smaller. Most of the north side of the park could easily be eliminated.
Attractions like freefall, batman, riddler could be relocted in some of the wasted space in the front half of the park.
Or Maybe they could use the land passed the water channel as parking space and sell of part of the parking area closer to the main roads.
I am going to have to se an aerial view to get some idea of the surrounding layout

06-26-2006 11:58 AM #47Six Flags attracts Teens and younger people, primarily because the attractions they offer appeal to that age range almost exclusively. Very young kids, and adults who don't like the huge coasters, have little to nothing to do at the parks. That's why we don't go, because it doesn't offer the varied experiences that Disney parks offer. They need more than a name change, they need to change the entire way they put their parks together, and the attractions they choose if they really want to compete with Disney.

I am sorry, I think when walt opened disneyland he set the wheel's in motion for a more or less demise, or at the very least downsizing of the amusement park industry. It's just not that profitable anymore because it doesn't attract a wide audience and the repeatability of them is weak.
I learned this first hand when I discovered disney and decided change my annual haunted house to be more like the haunted mansion. People liked the new special effect and atmosphere I implemented far more than the previous cheap thrills of some one jumping out at you. It had more repeatability and appealed to a wider audience.
The market still exists today for flat rides and roller coasters, but only in areas that receive a heavy amounts of fresh tourists and certainly not in the quantity that six flags currently has them in. They almost need to be more like vegas with a roller coaster and a couple flat rides here and there. They can't be all smear together unless there like disney and have other types of rides to tie them together.
So ya, unless six flags wants to re-brand itself and take a cue from disney, I doubt they will continue to exist and expand.

I have to admit, Universal did a great job with I.O.A. in combining Six Flags & Disney elements. I'd still rather go to any Disney park at WDW over I.O.A., but it is a fun park that combines steel coasters with more themed attractions with a wider audience.
