There are some films that you just know will be beautiful in 3D. And then there are others that you just say, "what were they thinking?" Thankfully, Finding Nemo falls into the first category. It was like Finding Nemo was initially made for the 3D conversion.
Another hit was the newest Toy Story Short before the movie,"Partysaurus Rex." I absolutely love that Pixar has continued with the Toy Story characters. In this short, its bath time for Bonnie, and she can choose one toy to take a bath with. While the other toys run away and hide, Rex is left on the floor, and is chosen by Bonnie.
After playing with Bonnie, Rex meets a bunch of new toys that can only play in water, and they beg Rex to turn the water back on since he is the only one with hands. While Rex isn't too sure if he should, he remembers the other toys calling him a Party-pooper so he turns on the water and that's when things get a bit out of control. "Partysaurus Rex" while it is not the strongest storyline of the new Toy Story shorts it is very cute, and will be a hit. This is also in 3D, but it didn't have any gimmicky 3D tricks which were a plus.
"Finding Nemo" absolutely shines in 3D. The opening sequence brings so much depth into the ocean world. It was like seeing the movie for the first time. The characters really come to life on the big screen, and I did not notice any imperfections from the 3D conversion.
For me, this was probably the best 3D conversion that Disney has done so far. Beauty and the Beast felt too much like a pop-up book, and while The Lion King was beautiful as well, Nemo just blows them away. I do have to say, I completely forgot that the movie was not a musical. I'm so used to singing with Walt Disney World's Finding Nemo: The Musical that it felt out of place when Dory didn't start signing "Just Keep Swimming."
"Finding Nemo 3D" comes out in theaters September 14, and like the other re-releases that Walt Disney Studios has done recently, this will be a hit. It is absolutely the perfect way for people that haven't seen the movie, to experience it. I cannot wait to experience this beautiful movie again in 3D.
