You have to be pretty much living under a rock if you haven't heard about the hit show Once Upon a Time. It's not just a classic fairytale story of girl meets prince and gets married. Once Upon a Time is from the creative geniuses that brought us LOST, so we all know this fairytale show is going to be everything but simple. Once Upon a Time: Season One is now available on Blu-ray.
Full Review below...
Emma Swan (Jennifer Morrison) is shocked when her ten year old son she gave up for adoption finds her and says she is the only hope to save this little town of Storybrooke. What she doesn't know is that everyone that lives in Storybrooke is actually a fairytale character in another realm. Every character from Snow White, Prince Charming, Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, and of course the Evil Queen which just so happen to be the mayor and adopted mother of Henry, Emma's birth son.
Almost every episode reveals a new character and how Emma tries to break the curse. What I love about this show, especially since it's the first season, you think an episode is going one way and then the writes just shock you and throw you in a completely different direction.
On every disc of the collection, there is at least one Bonus Feature. The first four discs offer Audio Commentary from one episode from the Cast and Crew. These are very insightful and Edward Kitsis and Adam Horowitz do a great job on trying to describe exactly what they wanted the viewers to feel from the episode.
Once Upon a Time: Origins is a Blu-ray exclusive feature. This was my favorite feature and I felt the most informative. This feature explores the origins of some of our favorite stories like Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Red Riding Hood, and Rumplestiltskin. These go beyond the storylines that we know and really provide a history lesson on how each story evolved.
Fairy Tales in the Modern World has the cast and crew discussing how the each loved the classic fairy tale stories and how they incorporate that into their episode and character. This was also a great feature that shows Ginnifer Goodwin's love of Snow White since she was young.
Building a Character follows Emilie de Raven as Belle from initial casting of her as Belle, to the different costumes they chose for the iconic character.
Welcome to Storybrooke shows the actual town that they use in British Columbia for the filming of Once Upon a Time. This featurette shows how they use the existing buildings as some of the actual stores being used in the show, and how they also use the residents.
The Story I remember…Snow White is the retelling of the story the cast and crew on how they remember the iconic tale.
Fairest Bloopers of Them All is exactly how it sounds. I always love bloopers so of course this is way too short!
Once Upon a Time is a show that makes you wish there wasn't months between seasons. It's creative and thought provoking. Every week you wonder what the writers are going to think of next to bring an iconic fairy tale character to life. Once Upon a Time: Season One is now available on Blu-ray.
