• TravelEAR Abroad: Locking up the Villains in the Jailhotel

Welcome back, travelEARS! Today, we are placing you “under arrest” and locking you up in the super-cool Jailhotel.

Now whether you’ve been a villain, a pirate, or even a good guy, you’ll be sure to love this cool hotel!

    About This Hotel

    Location:
    Löwengraben, Switzerland
    Typical Cost:
    $100 to $250 / night
    Website:

The Jailhotel was an actual working jail in Switzerland, operating from 1862 until it was closed in 1998. Though prisoners attempted to escape this hotel for over 136 years, now visitors are lining up to be able to spend a night in the jail cells that used to house criminals.

There are a total of 56 different rooms and suites guests can stay in. You can choose the “Unplugged” room for an authentic prison experience, complete with bunk bed. There are also larger rooms labeled “Most Wanted”, with the same basic style.

There are also suites with different themes. You can spend the night in the former prison library, or spend your time in the director’s quarters. These suites are luxurious- you’ll doubt that you are still in prison!

Each stay also comes complete with meals, but I can guarantee that these meals are better than what you would get in jail. So if you want to see what the prison life is a little like, definitely come visit the Jailhotel. You might just want to be locked up forever!

See you next week as we continue to take you, the TravelEAR, Abroad.
