Every little girl dreams about having a Cinderella story. Marrying her Prince Charming and living happily ever after. Well now a whole new generation of prince and princesses can experience the beloved classic Cinderella with new Diamond Edition available now.
Full review below...
Pretty much everyone knows the story of Cinderella, Cinderella lives with her evil step-mother and sisters as their servant. King wants the prince to get married so throws a ball for all eligible women in the kingdom. Cinderella wants to go to the ball but evil siblings and step-mother ruins it for her. Fairy godmother comes and rescues the day, but warns her to be home by midnight. She goes to the ball and the prince falls in love, but she runs away once it turns midnight leaving her glass slipper. Prince searches the kingdom for the person that fits the slipper. Cinderella's step-mother tries her hardest to stop Cinderella from trying on the slipper, but at last true love prevails and she has the other show, and lives happy ever after with her Prince Charming.
The Diamond Edition sparkles as much as the slipper itself. The animation looks clean and crisp and the audio is pristine. It is hard to tell that this movie is over fifty years old. With the Diamond Edition release we get the original Bonus Features that were on the Platinum Edition. These included two Deleted Scenes, Demo for "Cinderella" title song, the making of Cinderella, and "From Walt's Table: A Tribute to the Nine Old Men."
There are also several new features with the Diamond Edition. First is an introduction from Diane Disney Miller, recorded at the Walt Disney Family Museum. The next is a variation of Disney Second Screen called "Personalized Digital Storybook: Bibbidi-Bobbidi-You," which allows to upload your picture, pick a character, and go along with the movie like a storybook. Some portions didn't work for me, but then again I have never successfully had a Second Screen work for me either.
The Real Fairy Godmother shares the story behind the model for the character. Mary Alice O'Connor was drawn as the Fairy Godmother by her husband Kendall. Mary was also a layout artist for Disney, and a huge philanthropist in the city of Burbank. This was a very interesting feature, and I loved learning that she was considered the real Fairy Godmother.
Behind the Magic: A New Disney Princess Fantasyland goes behind the scenes of the construction of new Fantasyland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World. "Once Upon a Time" Ginnifer Goodwin played host around the new Fantasyland. It was interesting, but out of date since most of the areas they talked about are already opened.
Probably the most bizarre feature is the short The Magic of the Glass Slipper: A Cinderella Story by iconic shoe designer Christian Louboutin. Louboutin of course designed a glass slipper for the release of the Diamond Edition and this is sort of a creative marketing commercial for the designer. It's very artistic but is not really needed. I would have rather seen another in depth look about the making of the film.
The last feature about Cinderella is an Alternate Opening sequence. This was recently discovered by the Animation Research Library. This is shown in storyboard film, and boy I'm I glad that this was left on the cutting room floor.
We then receive the short Tangled Ever After. This of course follows Rapunzel's and Flynn's wedding day. Maximus and Pascal get into some shenanigans when they both loose the wedding rings. I absolutely loved this short, and wished we could have gotten a behind the scenes look as well.
Cinderella Diamond Edition really shines. I do wish that Disney would give the fans what they want with more Bonus Features. The Platinum Edition release saw more features than this, which was a bit of a disappointment. Overall, this classic fairytale is a great addition to anyone's Diamond Edition collection.
