• Disney PR's negative response to high-fashion images of Disney characters for upcoming BARNEY's Holiday campaign

The Disney Post attempted some PR damage control last week for the BARNEY'S ELECTRIC HOLIDAY campaign which is being created in partnership with Disney. Unfortunately, it seems the high-end fashion looks for this campaign are not sitting well with consumers and they have been very vocal about it through social channels such as Twitter and Facebook.

The new interview with Luis Fernandez, senior vice president of global creative at Disney Consumer Products, takes two specific moments to specifically call out that the re-imagined visualizations of the characters are only a very brief part of overall campaign as part of a day-dream sequence by Minnie Mouse.

We shared these preview images in August and MouseInfo readers were also quite vocal on the matter seeming to agree that the images were unsuitable representations of these cherished characters for their gaunt model figures.

Launching November 19, the marketing campaign will take well-known characters such as Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Goofy, Cruella DeVil, Snow White, and Tiana and give them a full runway treatment in real-world fashions by designers such as Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabana, and Lanvin.

As part of the push a variety of exclusive merchandise will be available including Vinylmation figures designed by Paul Smith and Diane von Furstenberg, Mickey Mouse ears designed by Rag & Bone and L'Wren Scott, and smaller items such as holiday ornaments, and edible sweets.

Dipping into the world of high fashion no unfamiliar territory for Disney. Earlier this year Disney revealed a Cinderella-inspired shoe by Christian Louboutin and last year Miss Piggy had a fashion spread for InStyle magazine.

I don't care for the anorexic look personally. Its a bad road to go down. I don't mind a little futuristic edginess, but this goes way beyond edginess.
