Last week's clever viral clip of a 1982 video recording of a commercial for the video game Wreck it Ralph turned out to be the first in a series of viral videos promoting the upcoming WRECK IT RALPH theatrical release.
Since the release of the initial video, which appeared to have been taken from an old VHS recording, Disney has released 1997 and 2012 video clips promoting the Sugar Rush and Hero's Duty games, respectively, showcasing the change in game trends and also the evolution of Litwak's Arcade.
The progression of the technology in both commercials is subtle but poignant. In the 1997 clip for Sugar Rush, we find the video recording of a much better quality, perhaps recorded with a much more modern VCR than the 1982 clip. Also of note is that the arcade in 1997 seems to have actually grown into a successful business, offering customers four quarters on their birthdays instead of just two as in 1982.
In the 2012 clip, shown in full HD quality like you'd watch on Youtube, we find that the arcade still exists and has since nixed free quarters on your birthday in favor of offering double birthday rewards points on a gamer card.
