• Recreating New York City for superhero-filled MARVEL THE AVENGERS

It's Oscar Sunday and in anticipation of the big night, we're taking a look at some of the work of one of the nominees for this years Visual Effects categories: Industrial Light & Magic.

The ILMVisualFX account on Youtube has been releasing a great selection of behind the scenes clips of the computer wizardry and magic used to create the stunning CG visuals in last year's MARVEL THE AVENGERS.

Perhaps the most interesting is their most recent featurette offering a look at how New York City was created on-screen when very little of the actual city was used for filming. The video shows just how extensive the use of green-screen was in creating the superhero-filled world.

The crew then digitally recreated roughly 20 square blocks of mid-town Manhattan using a variety of techniques. Live action shoots were held primarily on sound stages in New Mexico and in the streets of Cleveland.
