• Sixth Annual Long Beach Comic Con Marks Record Attendance and Programming



    This past weekend geeks from all over came to Long Beach for the sixth annual Long Beach Comic-Con. The event had record ticket sales and more programming than ever. This year launched the first Dwayne McDuffie Award, honoring the legendary creator by celebrating diversity in comics. Dwayne McDuffie Award will be granted the weekend of February 28, 2015 to an American comics work, published in print or digitally in 2014, deemed by the Selection Committee to promote diversity.

    Also in attendance was Long Beach Mayor, Robert Garcia to announce the launch of the Dwayne McDuffie award. The fun continues with the Long Beach Comic Expo, February 28 - March 1, 2015. Tickets are available now through the website: www.longbeachcomicexpo.com.

    6th Annual Long Beach Comic Con Marks Record Attendance and Programming

    Long Beach, CA – Long Beach Comic Con wrapped up a hugely successful weekend event, boasting record ticket sales and unprecedented programming. Highlights of the weekend include:
    • Launching the Dwayne McDuffie Award, honoring the legendary creator by celebrating diversity in comics. The only comics award of its kind, the inaugural Dwayne McDuffie Award will be granted the weekend of February 28, 2015 to an American comics work, published in print or digitally in 2014, deemed by the Selection Committee to promote diversity.

    • The Hero Complex panel room, featuring discussion on Hellboy, Robot Chicken and the hit comic book AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE.
    • A Banned Books Week discussion led by the Newport Beach Branch Library with bestselling writer Joshua Hale Fialkov and SALON contributor Samuel Sattin.
    • Kids programming including interactive panels where kids can learn how to draw the Simpsons and Futurama characters and “how to draw your dragon.”
    • Cosplay Contest hosted by Nerds Like Us.
