• Inside and In Depth: The Muppets at the El Capitan

Now through January 5th, the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood is presenting a special engagement of Disney The Muppets. We were invited to check out the festivities which include not just the movie but also a special holiday pre-show with a live appearance by Kermit and Miss Piggy.

After the film, there's the special exhibit downstairs which includes actual sets and props from the film and a collection of Miss Piggy's actual costumes from the film. Next door at the Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store the celebration of the Muppets continues with the Muppet What-Not Workshop and special Muppet Party dinners on select nights.

A look at the classic marquee.

Inside the theater, decorations help welcome in the holidays.

As always, all performances at the El Capitan begin with live music on the restored pipe organ. Rob Richards playing classic tunes.

Jingle bell bracelets have returned to the El Capitan and are a fun way to bring more holiday cheer during the special Muppets Holiday pre-show.

Our holiday host begins singing classic holiday tunes and is joined by none other than Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy. They lead the audience into a sing-along of classic holiday carols and of course those jingly bracelets come in handy.

While supplies last, if you're seeing the film at the theater you can also check in on Four Square and get a pin just like the one above! Inside the theater, you can also pick up special plushies with your popcorn and soda purchases. You can also donate $2 to Variety's Kids and receive a Green with Heart of Gold keepsake. Birthday parties hosted by the El Capitan can also be arranged.

You can visit www.elcapitantickets.com for more information!

After the film, you can head downstairs to enjoy the Miss Piggy Couture Collection. Apart from costume there's also a selection of props and sets.

Costumes on display from the film. With each costume is a little description about it written by Miss Piggy herself!

Miss Piggy's dressing room was re-created in the theater.

Kermit's Office was also re-created at the theater.

A photo-op and other props from the film can also be found in the annex.

On select nights through January 5th you can sign up for The Most Sensational Muppet Party which takes place inside the Disney Soda Fountain and Studio Store! The party includes finger sandwiches, fruit salad, and cupcake decorating.

A commemorative photo is also provided along with a demonstration of the new Muppet Whatnot toys. The party preceeds a screening of the film in the theater next door! Price for adults is $40 and $37 for children.

For tickets or more information, you can visit www.elcapitantickets.com!

You can also enjoy the Rainbow Connection Sundae which includes luscious vanilla ice cream surrounded by strawberry syrup, caramel, and a marshmallow rainbow. $6.95

Oh I so wish I got to see this at the El Capitan instead of Huntington Beach today. lol I do have a question........obviously the outside parts were filled at the El Capitan. Were the interior parts filmed inside the El Capitan? I haven't been in that theater in years.

Good Question. I would think the El Cap was bigger, but maybe it was. I wish I could see it there too. I am very glad I got to see this weekend in any event. I hope it does really well and we get more Muppets in the future.

The insides did not appear to be filmed inside the theater. My guess is that those were filmed on a sound stage. The shots of the audience might very well have been filmed in the El Cap, though.
