Here We Go! A Review of Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Peter Pan Returns!

Flying on to store shelves is Peter Pan's long awaited appearance on the Disney Junior hit show Jake and the Never Land Pirates. In Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Peter Pan Returns, Peter's shadow is captured by who else, but Peter's arch enemy Captain Hook and it is up to the viewers to help Peter, Jake, Izzy and Cubby rescue his shadow.

The DVD also contains five additional episodes, bonus features and a Digital Copy.


Even though Jake and the Never Land Pirates does not center around Peter Pan it was inevitable that the boy who refused to grow up would eventually make an appearance. Peter does not disappoint as both kids and adults will enjoy his appearance here. While the challenges are clearly aimed at young kids, adult fans of Peter Pan will enjoy seeing Peter, Captain Hook and Mr. Smee.

In addition to the Peter Pan Returns episode, the DVD also contains five more episodes including, Pixie Dust Away which has yet to be aired:

• The Elephant Surprise! / Jake's Jungle Game
• The Pirate Pup! / Pirates Rock!
• The Sword and the Stone / Jake's Home Run
• The Pirate Princess / The Rainbow Wand
• Mama Hook Knows Best / Pixie Dust Away

The first of two bonus features, Yo Ho, You Ready to Find Jake's Shadow, is a simple game where kids must use clues to find Jake's shadow which has run off just like Peter's. Along the way kids can learn about pirate trivia and folklore. There is not much for adults to enjoy here, but it is entertaining enough for young Jake fans.

The other bonus feature is a pirate themed karaoke called Pirate Party With Pirate-oke. Again adults won't find much here, but the kids will love it and it certainly adds value to this release.

The second disc is a Digital Copy of the episodes which is a nice inclusion that is usually reserved for Disney's major films. No doubt many parents will appreciate this for on-the-go type situations.

Parents who have kids who are fans of Jake and the Never Land Pirates will no doubt want to pick this up. Even adults who are die-hard Peter Pan fans will enjoy the antics of the classic character and should consider this release as well. The show is quickly becoming a favorite and Peter Pan Returns is a quality release that will no doubt be popular with young and old alike.
