• Climbers return once again to scale the icy peak of the Matterhorn at Disneyland

Disney confirmed rumors today that mountain climbers will once again be scaling the famous icy peak of the Matterhorn. As part of the 50th Anniversary, characters were used in a show which featured Mickey Mouse climbing up the mountain.

The details are sparse from the announcement today (and truthfully it could just be the return of climbers without a specific show element tied to it) but what is certain is that they are set to debut June 15th along with all the other fun unveilings as part of the massive 2012 push for the Resort which day by day starts to match the hype of the successful 50th Anniversary for the park.

We Direct Your Attention High on the Icy Slopes of the Matterhorn at Disneyland Park

Matterhorn Bobsleds has always been my favorite attraction at Disneyland park. Nothing beats the giddy thrill of hurtling through caverns of ice, encountering the Abominable Snowman and splashing down in an Alpine stream.

One of my earliest memories in the park is of walking down Matterhorn Way and stopping in my tracks when I realized there were people actually climbing the famous Swiss peak. Having real mountain climbers on the mountain is a tradition started by Walt Disney in 1959 when the attraction opened. Over the years, climbers going by the names Hans, Otto and Fritz took on the challenge of reaching the summit.

I’m excited to tell you that this summer, brave mountaineers will once again scale the icy slopes of the mighty Matterhorn. Look for them starting June 15 when the Matterhorn Bobsleds attraction reopens. Seeing them is one of those only-in-Disneyland experiences that will make you yodel with joy!

YES!! I've wondered for the longest time now why the climbers stopped climbing and finally, they will come back. I'm getting more and more excited for this June 15th.
