    Deadline reports that a prince has been chosen for the upcoming Maleficent movie starring Angelina Jolie. Australian actor Brenton Thwaites has been cast as the prince for the Robert Stromberg-directed film.

    Thwaites will be in the Lifetime Channel film Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, a 2012 remake of The Blue Lagoon which is set to be released next month. Prior to the movie, he had a role on the Aussie TV series Home And Away.

    It's strange, I don't quite know what to say about John Carter. It's definitely not a bad movie but I just cannot say that it's a good one either. If I had to rank I'd definitely place it above Prince of Persia as the end-credits rolled on both of these films, I was left feeling disappointed that there just wasn't more emotions within me that were stirred.

    Which emotions? I'm not entirely sure, but after watching John Carter --which is available on Blu-ray and DVD June 5th--I felt a certain sense of a lack of completeness.

    BURBANK, Calif. – May 31, 2012 – Bob Iger, Chairman and CEO of The Walt Disney Company, announced today that Alan Horn has been named Chairman of The Walt Disney Studios effective June 11. Horn will oversee worldwide operations for The Walt Disney Studios including production, distribution and marketing for live-action and animated films from Disney, Pixar and Marvel, as well as marketing and distribution for DreamWorks Studios films released under the Touchstone Pictures banner. Disney’s music and theatrical divisions will also report to Horn.

    Deadline is reporting that Disney has hired Jesse Wigutow to bring the best-selling children’s novel, Peter and the Starcatchers, to the silver screen. The popular book series provides a backstory to Peter Pan prior to meeting Wendy. Four additional novels and multiple chapter-books followed, leading up to a Broadway adaptation which has garnered nine Tony Award nominations.

    Currently Wigutow is working on his rewrite of 1983's, "The Osterman Weekend." In the past he penned 2003's, "It Runs in the Family."

    We mentioned early last week that Disneyland Resort will have daily Extra Magic Hours for the summer. Disney confirmed yesterday that guests of the Disneyland Resort Hotel are able to use the special entry opportunity for every day of their stay.

    All summer long, Disneyland will have its early entries on Sundays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays while Disney California Adventure will offer Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

    D23's From the Vaults series continued this weekend at the Walt Disney Studio in Burbank offering members the chance to see Sister Act on the big screen once more. Before the start of the film, music developer and orchestrator Marc Shaiman was invited up to speak to the fans about his involvement with the film.

    In February, the studio also played host to the D23 From the Vaults: Newsies event which included a panel discussion.

    The Disney Magic sets sail today on its historic voyage from New York on its first 8-night cruise to The Bahamas, with stops at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, and Port Canaveral, Florida, where guests can enjoy a visit to The Walt Disney World Resort.
