Hello and welcome back to another addition of TravelEAR Abroad. For this week's installment, we come out of the ground and into the sunlight and fresh air as we explore Giraffe Manor.

Judging by the name, you can probably deduce that this hotel has something to do with the elegant long-necked animals.

Any Travelear familiar with Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge at Walt Disney World in Florida is probably accustomed to seeing live giraffes outside their hotel window. What might not be so common is that at Giraffe Manor, you can actually interact with the friendly animals one on one as the graceful creatures are prone to poking in their heads to say hello.

Christmas may literally be just around the corner but yesterday was actually the first day of winter. To say farewell to the fall, we send off with this image showing the final falling tree leaves in... Fantasyland. Yes, Fantasyland!

Although Space Mountain and the Astro Orbitor are the most prominent elements in the photo, closer inspections reveals a snow-capped spire of Sleeping Beauty Castle and the more obvious Mr. Crocodile weather vane atop the Peter Pan's Flight attraction.

Fantasyland is a well-protected little pocket of Disneyland from the thematic sense with its castle walls surrounding it and some of the tallest trees in the park at it's northern end. But from just the right perspectives, you can catch a glimpse at some blink-and-miss them visual intrusions. In this case, we stand on the exit platform of Casey Jr. Circus Train for a look across Tomorrowland!

Today the Disney Parks Blog treated us with a look at some ride testing for Mater's Junkyard Jamboree. In addition to starting the ride testing, we’ve been making some other big changes to this area with the installation of our marquee and a huge new set piece – Mater’s Junkyard Jukebox. Take a look and see all the great work that’s being done in Mater’s junkyard. (Please note that the music you hear in the video is for the video only and will not be part of the fun songs you’ll hear Mater singing. More on these fun songs later!)

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla., Dec. 14, 2011 – For more than 20 years, Vernell Erkins has volunteered her time for a tradition that makes the holidays brighter for more than 1,000 local children. Erkins is one of hundreds of Cast Members at Walt Disney World Resort who outfit teddy bears in a variety of costumes, for youngsters to unwrap during the holidays.

“Growing up, my children loved teddy bears, so if we can dress up some bears and make other kids happy, well, that’s great,” Erkins said.

This year, approximately 2,000 Salvation Army teddy bears were delivered to Cast Members in housekeeping, security, costuming, transportation and other roles. Cast Members challenge their creativity by costuming the bears as ballet dancers, basketball players, pirates and princesses, and even some Disney characters such as Tigger and Eeyore.
