Details are sparse but Deadline is reporting that Disney is moving forward with a reboot of Pete's Dragon. Director David Lowery is being tapped to write the film with Toby Halbrooks. Lowery has earned some industry buzz lately after the Sundance debut of his film Ain’t Them Bodies Saints.
The film is being produced for Disney by Jim Whitaker who was producer on The Odd Life of Timothy Green which introduced a bit of quirky magic into a very real-world setting. The original Pete's Dragon similarly brought a touch of magic to a non-magical world with animated dragon who befriends a troubled child.
Although the original film was a musical it seems the reboot is not going in this direction. There's no details about a release date or when the film might go into production.by Published on 03-17-2013 09:29 AM
