I like that idea. it would be a good way to keep from being overcrowded but where would the overflow of people go? what is the max capacity of the area? if its 9k, do you give 9k tickets or do you give out 9500 and expect that people will get a ticket and not show for what ever reason (tired, on another ride, something unexpected...)

Showpass does sound like a good idea. You know there will be loads of people wanting to see the show when it does finally open. Al mentioned the grand opening is scheduled for late April, but they will likely have many "soft openings" before that. If the Showpass does happen, I would bet they will test it on those days as well. There will be lots of testing and adjusting with this show based on how the crowds really are and reaction to the show. This will be a first for DCA!

Showpass? Ug. Theme parks may be dying out in my world. I'm sick to death of waiting in line to get a piece of paper to wait in line again. And with the prices so high and crowds so thick...yeah the shine is going away for me. Our passes have expired and I'm thinking it's time to save up for Europe again while DL and DCA just lurch toward 2012.

I don't see how you'd have to wait in line to get the showpasses. I imagine with them being distributed all day, there would never be lines. In fact, I've never once waiting in line to get a fastpass, so I'm really not sure what you mean by being "sick to death of waiting in line to get a piece of paper to wait in line again." Seems to me like you'd get the showpass (no line) and then just enter the viewing area whenever you so chose (no line).

I'm not sure where you can go to experience the kind of entertainment that Disney provides and not wait in lines. It's the nature of that kind of unique experience. That's what theme parks are, that's what they've always been. Thank goodness there's even fastpass in the first place to avoid the long lines on the biggest attractions. That alone has significantly helped the landscape of queueing up, at least for me.

You seem to talk about this like it's some big change at Disney parks, as though waiting in line didn't used to exist. You can't blame Disney for its popularity and its price - the market will determine both. Either way, I don't think it's Disney and Disney parks that have changed all that much in terms of crowds. You might perhaps consider the fact that your tastes are changing or you've lost patience for things you once had patience for.

It reminds me of a Yogi Berra quote- "Nobody goes there anymore. It's too crowded." Lack of crowds and lack of popularity at Disney parks is something that's nice for a day or two, but if the parks are like that all the time, the quality, maintenance, and expansion would seriously suffer.

And what do you mean by lurching towards 2012? I'm confused by that.

well I think he's either talking about the apocolypse or the opening of Carsland

lol everyone's got their own opinion on fastpass and all.

I HAVE seen lines for fastpass before, especially at WDW during the holidays (30min FP lines for Soarin while watching the estimated time shoot up towards late afternoon within minutes of the park opening). I've even seen some mild ones form for different Disneyland attractions durring higher crowd times.

My money's on there being lines present in the early weeks of this and on weekends throughout the summer. If it's as good as they say then you'll definitly get the passes going fast. Sadly it'll only be the tourists not in the know that fail to get the ticket

This really could be a big AP hit. I really wonder if word of mouth for this show will finally get crowds over to DCA? I think the park is slowly moving ever closer to being a real experience. Of course there's still going to be need to be a few more rides to really break that point I think.

Lines to get a Fast Pass ticket are quite common at the Tokyo Disneyland Resort. Especially for the major attractions.

I can see both the pros and cons of a system like Showpass. But if they're really concerned about out-of-town visitors being able to see the show, they should impose more black-out dates for AP.

My opinion is that APs should be ~$200-300 more than they are now across the board and should have much more aggressive black out dates.
    i like you .

they should definitly consider more aggressively raising AP prices if this is really the case. I often hear Al rant on about this sort of thing but so far Disney seems to keep raising AP prices in line with the normal inflation we see on day trip tickets.

Showpass will favor those who have the knowledge and are there for the day but will punish those who remain totally in the dark. I don't mind the system in a way though as it should allow things to stay more orderly.

I wonder how soon they'll shut off that interactive fountain before shows? I'm sure people don't want to sit in soggy spots

I REALLY wish they'd increase the hours for DCA though, it's such a pretty park at night and I'd be willing to stomach them opening at noon if it meant they'd be open later into the night more often.

Show pass will be a headache in my opinion. People who are camped out in the area hours before the show starts and then suddently being told that they need a ticket and need to vacate the area, will cause complaints. They should atleast have a cast member with a few show passes on hand when they do need to clear out that area just to avoid the problem. Also, the amount of cast members needed, let alone some type of baricade to not alow people without a ticket in the area will definatley be a big cast member headache. This isnt like fantasmic where your behind a rope and a cast member tells you to sit or you cant enter this area, they need to look if you have a ticket. Also, what about people who enter the roped off area with a ticket, then exit to go to the bathroom, how will they get back in? Will they need to be hand stamped? lol! There are so many things that can make showpass a headache. I could be wrong and maybe it might be a success, but in my opinion, I feel show pass will be a fail.

Yes, the long lines to get a show pass at the machines are possible, but I believe not as likely to happen in DCA. Disneyland sure has had long lines to get a fast pass like for Indiana Jones or for Space MT, but I've never waited for a fast pass in DCA ever. Maybe 30 seconds for Soarin over Cali, but thats it.

And in terms of solving the AP problem, its easy! Stop offering the monthly payment plan! It makes it affordable for a lot of people. You cut that payment plan thing out, and raise APs maybe another $50 bucks, and you got a huge decline in AP purchases from these past few months. Just my opinion, again.
