I'm guessing the chances that this park will be finished and open by February 10th are close to nil?

I will be a little disappointed if the area is still a massive construction site as it was when I last got to the DLR in April last year, but c'est la vie. I guess parks (or ampitheatres as the case may be) are complicated things to build!

The Golden State Park has fallen behind schedule. It was supposed to be done by now but is getting close. February 10th might not be too far off.

I think rather than speeding up the Park construction just so that it gets done sooner isn't a priority. In reality, there's not any good reason to get it done before WoC is ready. It would be a nice area to hang around, but they probably figure spending the extra money to get it done sooner isn't worth it. With the reported slight delay in the WoC show anyway, it's even less critical to have it done quickly.

Still, I'd say it looks like maybe a month away from being done, so mid February - even late February - would leave plenty of time before WoC is ready.

The actual date they are shooting for right now to have the park done is Feb 20. So still a month away. But with all this rain now, would not be surprised if they fall behind schedule again.

I take your point that there's no huge rush to get it finished early, but I do think that whereas WDW goes to one extreme and virtually never closes anything for fear of upsetting guests, DLR can sometimes go in the other direction and have huge sections of the resort boarded up for long periods with a bit of a "tough luck" attitude to those who have their once in a lifetime vacation fall during those periods.

At least opening up the ampetheatre would create some space and atmosphere in that part of the park. As it is, in mid-February the Rivers of America (and possibly the entrance to Frontierland) will be surrounded by a construction fence over at DL while the Paradise Pier area and Hollywood will be a maze of construction walls over at DCA, in both cases turning huge sections of the parks into walled-up construction sites. The Matterhorn will also be down, though thankfully that's the only big one. It's not the end of the world for me & DLR gets top marks for maintenance and upgrades, but the impression you would get if that was what greeted you on your first visit to DLR should really be enough for them to try and get as much of the park ready for guests as soon as possible.

The park tower all lit up. A bit rainbowy and not very old fashioned 'pierish'...

I still stand by my take that the Pier isn't necessarily supposed to be in a different time period. Merely that it was "built" during that time period and, like any old seaside amusement park, will be updated but still retain its original elements.

That may or may not be Disney's angle, but I really don't care. The WoC wouldn't exactly be seen on a "real" period seaside pier either, but should they not have WoC just because of that?

I think that tower looks fantastic with the colored lights, but hey, that's just me.

I also like the tower lit up like that. They are probably still toying with the colors to see what works. I wonder if they will chase or do patterns similar to the Fun Wheel, perhaps after each World of Color show or something. They put color changing LEDs on it for more than just steady lighting!
