Megan Brain the paper sculptor tasked with this task highlights the steps in the newest video. She specifically notes that the paper is cut out and photo-graphed with high-res camera. I dunno, what point I'm pushing any more it just seems odd.

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

To address your previous argument, I think it boils down to authenticity. They could've easily had computers "draw" the characters for Princess and the Frog, and yet they still had artists do the preliminary sketches before going in with computers. There's something to be said about the authenticity of things that just brings a better sense of care to the artistic medium being utilized.

The computer doesn't magically draw a character though. It's a big difference. The sketch is required for the animation process. You can't get the computer drawing without the original drawing.

For this though, it's cut-outs that are created whose pieces are then individually photographed and digitally animated. It just makes no sense to me! I'd understand if she actually assembled the characters and they photograph each frame but they don't do that, they photograph each of the individual elements separately and assemble it in the computer to animate. So a picture of the eyeball, a picture of the necklace, a picture of the fin. And then its all put together and animated in the computer. Added to this, the paper doesn't move like paper. If you look at the tail of the fish, it moves a bit like a real tail, not the way it would if it were paper.

Call me crazy but it just seems like a waste of time and money. I don't know anything about Megan Brian but it just sees like they got a hoity toity artist attached to the project and then there it is. Why paper cut outs? What does it contribute to the story or the underlying basis of the story? I just don't get the paper cut outs, lol.

Then again, I'm renowned for not "understanding art." :shrugs:

Ironically I have very little hair on my feet. Stops at the sock-line/golfer's-tan-line. But anywho, I digress...
