You mean just the regular restaurant? You can do a walk-up but best idea is to get a reservation. You can usually make reservation same day so long as you do it by the early afternoon. Even then, good chances that you'll get in.

Seeing World of Color is really this simple. You've got three options - FastPass, Picnic or Dining Package at either the Wine Country Trattoria or Ariel's Grotto.

If you want assured of a really good spot then the choice is simple - dining package.

FastPass will give you a section, but there is no guarantee that it will be a good section.

FP gives you a better chance than it used to, though. Getting rid of the Orange section and making it one huge Blue section means mass free-for-all for that entire area. If you get the 11:15 show, even better since no dining packages are sold for that show, meaning the dining area is open to FP. Yellow isn't that bad of a section, either. Really Red is the worst option you could get.

Did the Dining package on Friday Aug 6 (Wine Country)
Arrived at queue area at 7:30pm and was able to get the top row of steps in the dining area (near the fountain). The rail was already full and I wanted to have a "stadium seating" approach so that my family (wife and 2 daughters all around the 5'3" mark) to be able to see. It was far enough back to not get too wet and to see the entire width of the performance.

Lots of elbow room in this section - fast pass areas looked like a can of sardines. Wait was 1.5 hours but pre show took up some time (it was fun too)

Loved the show but the family agreed that once was enough and that we were not going to do the fastpass / human crush approach on Sunday.

Would recommend to anyone that does not want long lines/ tight quarters and who can afford to spend a little more for a dinner to do the package.
It just made the whole thing more bearable and enjoyable.

Note: I have seen Fantasmic only once at DLR in 6 trips. One time standing in close quarters to that many people was enough for me. WDW version is different and slightly sub standard but the seating in the theatre is more my style.

Next time, try catching WOC from the back near Mania, probably your best bet. If you want seats, the benches under Silly Symphony Swings are sometimes not ever claimed for one show or the other.

I was lucky enough to get tix to the event below. Tix were available for a very short time this morning.

‘World of Color’ Meet-Up at Disney California Adventure Park Disney Parks Blog

You asked for it! After our first successful meet-up back in May, we’ve been planning our next event. We’ve had a lot of requests for a “World of Color” Meet-Up, so next Thursday we’ll be making that wish come true for 300 guests. If you’re a true “World of Color” fan, you will have the opportunity to hear from some of the show’s creators, including two Imagineers.
We’ll be hosting a panel discussion with Steven Davison, Vice President of Parades and Spectaculars, Sayre Wiseman, Director of Show Production, and Mary Niven, Vice President of Disney California Adventure park and Guest Services.
The event will be a rare opportunity for a personal, behind-the-scenes look at the show and its creators. Fans will have a chance to ask questions and to hear the show’s creators talk about some of their favorite memories since they started working on this project in 2005.
As if that weren’t enough, for this very special event, we will have reserved viewing in Paradise Park at the 9:00 p.m. performance of “World of Color” for this exclusive group.
The event will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010, and check-in will close at 7:15 p.m.
Suspended in the timelessness of innerspace are the thoughtwaves of my first impressions. They will be our only source of contact once you have passed beyond the limits of normal Magnification... Magnification...Magnfication.

We were there last night and World of Color was amazing. It was our first time seeing it and we were in complete awe. I didn't see any of the sloppy fountains that you saw Joven.

Ok. So. For those who may know... or may have a clue... lasers...

    What's the deal?

I've heard tidbits from various peeps online... that have said, that the shows lasers are shut off if a plane or helicopter is within certain airspace during the show. I've watched the show many, many times, and noted that the lasers only work maybe... half the time. Since I've heard this supposed plane thing, I've checked the skies... and low and behold, when there's an aircraft somewhere off in the distance behind Grizzly peak etc., the lasers are always off. So... am I just seeing coincidences... or did Disney seriously construct a show where major key effects of the show only work half the time because there's an aircraft in the sky about Anaheim?

I believe the laser thing was an oversight by Disney. But I have heard the same thing about the aircrafts. From what I hear, though, the are working on a solution to it.
