I really love that the CM's wave goodbye to everyone after the show...It's very WDW-esque, and I think that's a good thing.

At the ROA, during the recent draining and refurb there were reports of how awful the odor was as the last water dried up, yet the canoes bring Park guests directly in contact with the water. Also Fantasmic pre- and post-show workers go into the water, tho I never see them actually submerge. As the expression goes, maybe there's something in the water?
    It's chlorinated.

Give me a break! Have you ever swam in a lake or river? In a natural environment there are natural microorganisms that consume the waste from the water and convert it to gasses that disappear into the air. The same thing is true for the lagoon and the same thing is true for a home aquarium.

The lagoon is not a swimming pool and it's never going to be as clean as one, but it also won't present a health hazard for the few who do swim in it for work purposes.

When the water begins to smell foul then there will be cause for concern. To those of you who are concerned about the appearance of the equipment - have you ever seen the pumps and fountains on Fantasmic? That's what happens when you submerge metal in water. The grime and slow deterioration to the appearance is nothing to be concerned with. Over the long run they will eventually have to replace equipment as it ages, but not any more frequently than they'd already anticipated.

Lastly, the bodies of water at Disney are subject to regular inspections by the state health department. However, I would expect that Disney would regularly monitor and test the water quality in their ponds, lagoons and attractions to ensure that they don't end up with trouble and bad press.

Not true and you only have to look at the lagoon to know why what you said is false!

Said water falls on guests during the show, though, so yes it could potentially be a health hazard if the quality of the water gets bad enough. Do you see rather disgusting looking grime sitting on the top of the water of the Rivers of America? The RoA has a filtration system in place which is why the water doesn't have that sitting on the top of it. Paradise Bay's water is pretty bad, though. It doesn't take a scientific approach to deduce that.

But it's not like we're looking at a red tide here. It's nothing more than dirty algae. You probably come in contact with more viruses and bacteria just being around people at the resort.

I was at the resort last Thursday and the water seemed to be getting better. There is still a definitive brown color, but at least the algae blooms are receding. It takes a LONG time to recover from a short lapse in filtration - if anyone has ever had a pond or an aquarium, when the filter stops working, things go south fast. Usually you have the luxury of being able to swap the water out and clean the tank/pool - but for a body of water that is as large as the Paradise Lagoon, it may take months before you see a clear shift in water quality. Short of bringing people in to scour the bay, there's not much else that can be done.

Also at the resort, I saw WOC crews testing one of the projection domes and I can deduce that the problem had a lot to do with the lifting mechanism - they were really focusing on that piece of the dome's structure. Also interesting to note, perhaps just for me though, they had 2 of the platforms down by the time I left Paradise Pier. Since WOC started, I haven't ever seen uninterrupted water...so perhaps the fixes for the show are becoming far and few between. Wouldn't it be nice to have the show work like it's supposed to - out of sight in the day.

Paradise Bay is exquisitely themed to the portion of Finding Nemo where the Tank Gang clogs up the filter to make the aquarium unlivable so they can all escape. WDI has spared no expense on this one.
