I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

I don't know much about the system, but do omnimovers require basement space for ease of maintenance?
Also, maybe they decided that maintenance and programming rooms would be located under the attraction to provide maximum show space on the surface due to the small area.

Yea I'm thinking this is track layout. On Mansion if you look down you can see there's a good amount of space underneath for whatever reason. I wouldn't be surprised if the ditches are for the track.

That makes sense- itd be much easier to work on that way. I wonder if they will release much more as to whats going on from here on out

Also the structure of show scenes might require some digging. If you look at those pics as the vehicle path following the edge of the elevation, facing toward the pit, it makes sense.
The most spectacular show scenes from Horizons involved a steep drop off directly infront of the vehicles. (Thus the vehicles had to be evac'ed from the rear.)
Edit to add: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-rsx3IlIlYY
At roughly 2mins into that video they get into the grand vistas of Sea Castle showing how having show scenes that are below and infront of the vehicles give the sense of endless depth.

Horizons was great. I miss it.
With all the concerns about children climbing out of ride vehicles, I find it unlikely they'd replicate any of those types of scenes where there's a dropoff in front of the ride vehicle like that. Sadly, there are too many bad parents and too many undisciplined children to have those kinds of safety hazards any more. One kid climbing out to "meet Ariel" and tumbling down 7 or 8 feet would be bad news. Sensors can deactivate the ride vehicles, but they can't stop a kid from falling down into a pit.
