In pictures, the set remind me of Splash Mountain a little. Will be excited to ride this in August!

Mermaid is absolutely what DCA needs. I think people are going in comparing this to Pirates and Haunted Mansions but this is definitely more along the line of Peter Pan and Snow White. That said... I think Monster's, Inc. is a more solid presentation of the ride and I actually don't particularly like that film!

Monsters Inc. (the movie) gets better each time I see it. I didn't like it at first, but now I do really enjoy it. The ride is pretty cool, too.

    Couldn't agree more.

I do not have any problem with this attraction, but, for me it is a weaker effort than Monster Inc. Especially in telling the story and with transitions. Some of the effects are great but it lacks the richness of Monsters Inc. -for me anyway.
    Tasty!

^Which is odd because the AAs in Mermaid are far superior to Monsters in every single way. Which reminds me... DCA now has two giant squid AAs.

I found Mermaid to be exceedingly superior to Monsters Inc. That's not to say Monsters isn't a fun ride. Mermaid has a much higher detail level and it shows in the figures alone. Mermaid was seriously great, and I thought any complaints others made about it were totally invalid. VERY welcome addition.

    Went on it today,

Blown away, I had read alot of the complaints and I don't get it. A+ exactly what DCA needs. Whole family loved it (kids 1 & 3) and there's not alot that I can say that about in DCA.

From a story telling perspective I think it's splitting hairs. Kiss the Girl, Get Married, works for me. It's just like in real life, and isn't that what DCA has been trying to copy for 10 years ;-).

You guys need to realize that, yes even though Ariel is a darkride, used to place riders in the story... that the storyline had been surpassed by allowing the music from the film to shine. It's should be closer resembled to Splash Mountain. That ride uses the music as a means of telling the story and segway'ing riders through the attraction.

Which is fine, but then you have these boring/empty transitions while you wait for the music to fade, so you don't overlap. In Splash, this is easy - you just dump the riders down a waterfall. On an Omnimover system, it takes way longer and the ride flow suffers.

Hmm... interesting and well put. I can agree on this... I can't decide if I appreciated the break in show scenes for their purpose to build anticipation, OR to just turn the car around a corner. For instance, the moments between "Part of Your..." and "Under the..." when you hear Sebastian tells Ariel about how great the water world is, and you see the static fish on the wall, accompanied by the water effect for the duration of however long it takes to move 20ft.

I'll admit, it pumped us up to see what was just around the corner, BUT... what do you guys think?
