^I thought it was going to be something ala Haunted Mansion...an omnimover sort of thing.

Like Nemo in Florida.
Sit in a shell shaped doombuggy. A flyer like Pan would have been awesome, definitely more of an appropriate convenyance system, IMO.

the original mermaid concept was to feature a suspended system like peter pan... but i think that was when it was going to be more of a traditional dark ride... now that it is pulling e-ticket momentum, it will be using the omnimover system, which tells me this is going to be haunted mansion caliber in terms of size.

I'm actually glad that it's not Peter Pan style. Could you imagine the lines? Yuck.

I agree, but it's actually very functional too. The omnimover sysytem, with a clamshell-shaped vehicle is better than a suspended system like Pan as far as "staging" goes. With that shape vehicle, they can "aim" the guests toward what they want you to see, and away from what they don't. It gives them more control over how and when a guest experiences different scenes of the story

^But then you have the argument like in Roger Rabbit where they had to make every inch fun and and themed because guests could face at any which direction at any one point during the ride so they had to create a completely immersive attraction in all directions! I'm fine either way as long as we get a kicking attraction but I personally feel a suspened attraction better suits moving through a water environment. Swimming over Ariel and a colorful seafloor with no tracks to look down on. The problem is what do you create to block the view of the track overhead. With Pan you have the sails.

It can have show scenes similar to Horizons or World of Motion where the vehicles looked out into massive "alcoves" (for lack of a better term) that had all encompassing scenery both above and below. Horizons vehicles really didn't "need" to be suspended for the majority of the ride to work - the ability to exit to the rear of the vehicle was vastly more critical to the effect (allowing the lack of a walkway at the front of the vehicle).

^Correct me if I misunderstand but are you describing something like the Disneyland Railroad dioramas at Disneyland?
I wonder if they'd ever try an omnimover suspended type attraction.Joey AKA "dlfreak"

I just watched the "Ride That Never Was" segment again on TLM DVD. The suspended vehicle works really well as it seamlessly travels from above water to underneath.
There are no viewing obstacles since you pretty much have a 240+ degree view. The track above could also be slightly cambered to give the vehicle side-to-side motion.
As originally conceptualized, I believe the suspended type would fit better than the Omni.
That could be interesting.I wonder if they'd ever try an omnimover suspended type attraction.
