I believe the "ride" on the Little Mermaid DVD was the concept for Paris' version back when they were going to get this ride.

It was also the version slated for Mickey's Starland at Disneyland.

thats still pretty cool, i wonder what will be different, i hope it doesnt feel like recycled technology though. it seems like most of the older rides, and even a few of the newer ones, pushed technology. i just hope its not exactly like haunted mansion, except with the little mermaid, or peter pan, i hope it becomes its own ride.

Well, on the DVD, you ride in hanging shells, but from the models and concept art, I think it's just a regular Omnivore system. Most likely designed like the clammobiles in Nemo at WDW.

Wow, I didn't know that WDI was designing ride vehicles that can eat anything...

Also, the clams at Epcot only face one direction and can't turn like Mermaid's will. Think Doombuggies here.

Mickey's Starland was built at WDW as Mickey's Birthdayland to celebrate the mouse's 60th. After the 60th birthday party was over, the temporary land proved so popular that it was mildly made over and became Mickey's Starland, with an emphasis on the Disney Afternoon characters. At the time plans were made to build Starland at Disneyland as well - plans that quickly became Mickey's Toontown.

When Toontown became as popular as it did at DL, WDW wanted a piece of the action without spending any money, and as part of the 25th anniversary celebration, Mickey's Starland was again mildly made over into Mickey's Toontown Fair, which makes no sense whatsoever. Now Toontown Fair is on a possible chopping block in favor of a massive Fantasyland expansion.

Sounds like the plans for DL's Starland included the original Mermaid dark ride.

I don't think the Fantasyland expansion plans called for Toontown Fair to be bulldozed.. There's enough empty space behind the current land, plus the 20KLUtS plot that it would take something the size of a whole new land to need the Fair to go away. If they aren't using all the land back there, that's remarkably short sighted even for TDO.

There was one person I talked to who said that it was a possibility - which is why I said it was on a possible chopping block.

Personally, I think Toontown Fair is embarrassing. Either build it up to being something worthwhile or clear it out.
