And what happens if the mirrors actually return...?

Well, it seems that Paradise Pier's new design is stone happy (not a bad thing!) so I wouldn't be surprised if they did a stone-type thing around it. If they do put stone around the Fun Wheel, it might even look better then the wrap-around peir.

Natural looking stone/boulders would look really cool.

I completely give up on the redo of DCA.
This is what invites us to Paradise Pier???

I know I've gone off like this before.... but back when this started... DCA was said to be soon to be up to TDS standards...
So far we've had a misguided half done Fun Wheel redo, cement retaining walls halfway around the marina, fake looking 'lighthouses', and now, after they had removed the Souvenir 66 cheese they add back the exact same style as the center point of the entrance to the land???
I give up. I used to downplay people who used the term 'lipstick on a pig' but this is EXACTLY what Disney is doing and it looks horrible.
Mictorian/Victorian pier??? Where did this go?? I hate to say we were lied to... but...

I don't know, it looks ok to me. Certainly a lot nicer than the "lighthouses" (or floating roofs) that now dot the lagoon.
As happened with the Nemo subs redo, I think this over-hyping of recent developments at DLR is part of the reason so many of these things now seem underwhelming. Once upon a time certain people did their best to talk down any new developments at the resort, now it seems every new attraction or development represents a new peak of Imagineering which will inevitably be "cheapened" for the Disney World version. IMO, it was unlikely that DCA was ever going to come out of this project as the new TDS or Epcot as some were saying.
To agree with your point, I have been left wondering with things like the Fun Wheel why they're bothering at all if they're not going to finish the job of re-theming attractions.

Yeah, I really don't get the lighthouses. Like maybe if they looked like real lighthouses or something else?
I'm not sure what to say about this icon, I'm holding out for the final result. It's certainly not as big a crime as the lighthouses but yeah.
I think you've definitly hit on the whole overselling it thing.
I also don't think I get were their focus is. The Mickey wheel remake was a nice little refurbishment I guess but it addressed everything except the actual underlying weaknesses of the wheel. I had nothing against the old Sun and Mickey icons and would've much perfered to see the money spent on queue enhancements for both the wheel and Screamin. I still like the new lighting effects but that's neither here nore there.
I remember back in the day Marcie said that alot of this redo was being pushed on by ego rather then actual need to enhance the park. I can see that argument being made now because while the level of detail is going up, quite a bit of the money seems to be wasted on pointless movie tie ends and needless move this there and something else back again (I still think retheming Mullholland would be a mistake if its temporary but then again they haven't started on that anyways).
Anywho I still can't wait to see the seating area unveiled and I'll reserve judgement of this icon until we can actually walk through that area of the park again."We all have sparks, imagination... it's how our minds... create creations..."
