I think we may have discovered why Maliboomer "never has a line." Doing some quick research on S&S's website reveals that a single-tower Space Shot (which is Maliboomer's ride type) cycles about 360 pph. That would mean Maliboomer can cycle 1000+ pph! That's a fairly high capacity, IMO, for a carny ride.

But that's only if they are using all towers, which is usually not the case. In the past few years, I've only seen them run 2 towers at one time. And I seriously doubt that it has a capacity of 360 pph. If it does, it means that with 16 people per cycle, it has to launch 22 to 23 times an hour, meaning it loads, launches, and unloads about every 3 minutes. Now I've never sat there with a stopwatch so I can't be 100% sure, but it seems like its a lot longer than a 3 minute cycle.

^I will also add I don't really remember a time that Maliboomer was ever a walk-on... short line absolutely but walk-on... no.

That said, it sounds to me like we're all arguing the same side of the coin. We all agree that Maliboomer is fun (for some, at least, me included) but it won't be terribly missed. We also all seem to agree that the theming of it is quite awful and stands out with the rest of the new direction for the pier.

The only difference of opinion is really the motivations of what is more important. Is it more important to positively change the visual perception of the park (something DCA sorely needs, something it severely lacked when it opened) or more important to keep capacity, ride-count, and attraction variety up.

It's as simple as that, an opinion on the matter of what's more important for the overall fit of the park.

I happen to be on the side arguing that it should stay until they have a suitable replacement in mind... something a bit more substantive than some trees and a few benches.

It's not as simple as that at all. What's most important to Disney is balancing making guests happy with making money. In reality there are big costs to maintain and operate the attraction and it it serves relatively few guests. It is probably mostly being removed so that they can shift the labor costs over to something that is more productive. WDI is probably insisting that it either go or recieve at least a minor face lift to fit the new theming. With the prospect of throwing good money after bad for an attraction that isn't even popular, I'm sure TDA decided to just axe it now and save it's entire operating budget for the next few years.

What do people think about what I mentioned? With Maliboomer being removed seperately from a new construction project, when it finally comes to putting something new in there, we'll get more bang for our buck as the removal cost will not be a factor in the budget. With the way Disney budgets work, thats gotta be a plus.

This actually makes the most sense for why it should be removed asap. Getting something much better in the end = a very good idea!

I'm not a fan of leaving the space empty with only trees, bushes, and benches. But seeing the photoshopped pictures of it removed I do think the pier looks nice with out it, so Disney just removing it is growing on me.

ETA: It was possible to walk around most of Paradise Park yesterday. The waterfront walkway and where the trailers are were closed off. It's much nicer than the Golden State Park. Too bad it faces south with a big lagoon there so there can't be any shade with out blocking the views of World of Color, unlike the Fantasmic! viewing area which faces the other way.

I think the general idea here is not that the Maliboomer itself is offensive to the skyline from a distance, but the attraction does not fit in with the upcoming theme of the area, is very undisney in its design and experience, and that the theming it conveys is done in a cheap way.
I like the Fun Wheel as the focal point. The Maliboomer is distracting because it is too large for what is becoming a more intimate area in terms of theming and its garish decoration is completely out of place with a pier from gone-by-days. It worked better when Screamin' had that huge Mickey head to the left and the Orange Stinger sat to the right. But now that the scale has been tipped so far with the Mickey and orange gone, it dwarfs everything beneath it making it look even more out of place.

^ That does look great, disneycharacter. Paradise Pier looks much more like what it's SUPPOSED to be, an old fashioned amusement park.... without that big, unsightly "cell phone tower"
