I'd love to see something like that over the main bridge by Treasures in Paradise, though.

That's what I'm thinking, the only reason I mentioned the circular plaza was that is serves as an entrance to the entire area. Still, it's an awkward space to put that type of entrance sign, so the bridge is a much better option. Just replace "Boardwalk Funland" with Paradise Pier and the Mickey with a stylized old fashioned sun.

That archway was designed with two things in mind. It was going to be a tall structure to allow floats to pass thru and serve as a barrier to block the view of the Paradise pier hotel from the golden state park area

Yes, from the look of it, the arch clearance in that illustration might be close to 30 feet. That's probably plenty for the floats to fit though.

I dunno, just have a feeling Entertainment does not want to be limited on the parade route and that that's the reason. Not that they'd ever do it again but the Party Gras balloon floats are a good example of Disney being able to do something big and obnoxious... it just doesn't make sense to limit themselves unnecessarily especially when there's no real function for the limitation. Yes it looks nice but a large arch on the pathway/parade route in that location is potentially more trouble than it's worth.

Wouldn't you say they're more limited by the height of the parade storage building? And if they're collapsable for storage, then they're collapsable for a parade.

I agree they probably won't do it, but still, I don't think it would limit them that much.

You can't collapse a parade float in the middle of a parade, though. Logistically that'd be a nightmare.

Also, wouldn't a huge structure like that be in the way of the proposed WoC viewing platform at the GCH?

The ToT 2004 Rose Parade float begs to differ......

But I do agree with you, it would be too much work just to have an archway in the area. Although I think it looks really nice, it's better to leave the road clear........

Are they going to play new music while around the pier? Or will they keep on playing the Beach Boys?

Which means a simple tall float now is required to have built into its design a collapsing mechanism that needs to be reliable and run at least once a day in busy seasons etc... all for what? An arch that looks pretty. Just don't see it happening... not if Entertainment has its way. They'd be shooting themselves in the foot by building an arch over the parade route.
