I truely hope you are wrong and this is not a widly held opinion within DisCo. This would simply be throwing good moeny after bad, and I highly doubt there will be another $1 billion coming along YET again to try to fix this park when ONCE AGAIN, the critics are proved dead RIGHT!
This is not an execution problem. It is a theme problem.

I agree with Ismael. Nothing wrong with the theme, it was the bad execution.

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

Its not the theme,it was the execution, the California theme is probably THE most diverse theme I can imagine. They had a ton of potential and possibilities but blew it.

Are you smoking crack?????
Next time you are walking into Disneyland take a look at the plaque on the train tunnel.
Here you leave the world of today and enter the worldof yesterday, tomorrow and fantasy.
I'm thinking that is just SLIGHTLY more diverse than CA.
Let's see..... ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING except here and now...
vs.
Here, even if not exclusivly now anymore.
Look, little mermaid is set in a fantasy world with heavy European influences. Would that ride be better in a land that is a fantasy world with heavy European influence, or better if you try to CRAM it and distort it into somehow fitting CA?
Radiator Springs is a fantasy world, and anyone having driven through New Mexico would see the VERY heavy influence of New Mexico on the movie "Cars". Better if we let it be a fantasy world with heavy New Mexico influence, or better if we try to cram it into fitting a CA theme?
Monsters? Better if it didn't have to be crammed into Hollywood studio.
Bugs better if we try to cram it into fitting a CA theme, or just let it be about the bugs?
Do we need to jam GRR into a CA gold rush, or can we let it be somewhere else, like Canada or Alaska?
Random collection of way cool things to see and do is WAY more diverse than CA. It is CERTAINLY more exotic!
To say otherwise is just stupid!

It's Disney's California Adventure.....I don't see a problem with Monsters in a studio.

Judging on what has been confirmed I would say they are definitely watering down the theme. They are removing the California letters, murals, GGB, California songs, Golden Dreams, San Francisco, Bountiful Valley Farm and adding a bunch of cartoon things that have little to do with California. I would say that replacing the Sunshine Plaza with the Walt Disney Plaza waters down the California theme because the new area will only be about Hollywood while currently it celebrates all of California.
I'm not surprised as this is what they are doing with all of their themes.

It may shock and amaze you to learn that I actually agree with you on all of this. I think they should go with something that's more of a departure from DL, but whatever they decide needs to happen to make DCA successful they need to figure out what they're doing and stick with it. If the CA theme is being dicarded, then redesign DCA as something else and ditch the theme. If it's staying, make the theme work. Building attractions and entire lands that are completely unrelated to California and trying to shoehorn them in through esoteric explanations or architecture that reflects California but has nothing to do with the attractions is far from the best way to go.

This is why I'm not a fan of this California theme. I still don't really get what DCA really is. Why does there need to be a GGB replica in the park? It's already inside Soarin, I think that's good enough. The current reason its there and the theme surround it is poor.
What shouldn't belong in the park are too many attractions about the state or cram every state icon inside the park. This gets boring, especially if you're in the state. We should rather be seeing the state used at a setting or backdrop to a story, just like the story of all the Tower of Terror attractions. The TDS version is the perfect example of this. The only relation to New York City is the setting and location. The story is actually about a scary idol-looking-thing found in another part of the world obtained by a New York City hotel owner and collector. Same goes for the Haunted Mansion and PotC inside New Orleans Square. Nothing to do with the city other than using it as the location at the starting point.
On a more relating note, I find the new Walt Disney Plaza to be a great way to open the park. The theme is Walt Disney making his way to California (which is actually a real theme) and ads story to the land where there was no story before. The GGB was thematic in visual detail but had no story or reason to be there other than trying to create a post card image seen from outside the park and less from the inside, which I find weak. It also had no connection to its surrounding. It was rather random.
On a note relating to a San Fran section of the park, I would rather it be identical to New Orleans Square, to where the theme is period specific. Why not the 1920's San Francisco where the Crystal Palace was the place to shop and Jazz music was becoming the music of the night life. The Golden Gate Bridge was only an idea and the way to cross the bay was at the Ferry Building. The city was growing into its new architecture after the fires of the 1906 earthquake destroyed most of the city. Creating a story in that setting would be wonderful. And add atmosphere! Add sounds effects and props, interactive elements and life to the lands, as if it was the actual location of its time! Come on, Disney!
If someone wants to see the GGB, go to San Fran and see it there. Disney should focus on creating wonderful story driven attractions and lands. I believe the looser the connection to California the better the connection to the story while still relative to the overall park atmosphere.Fabio (MagicWDI) | Cinderella is my favorite!
