But Pirates of the Caribbean has a lot more to do with the land it's in than The Little Mermaid does with California, unless mermaids have been known to take up residence in San Francisco.

It's Disney, it's fantasy. Disney themeing has holes in it. Not everything Disney has done or will do makes complete sense. Mermaids in California? Why not? It's Disney, not rocket science. It's fantasy. pure and simple.

I disagree entirely. While I'm looking forward to the Little Mermaid ride and think it will be great when taken on its own, anyone who thinks it fits the theme of the land that it's in, much less the theme of the park, is crazy.

Perhaps the designers of this billion dollar makeover should ask the guys who designed DisneySea how to build a modern Disney theme park with few contradictions. The Little Mermaid works there perfectly.

I'm not expecting perfection, but I also don't want to have to take giant leaps of logic to feel like I'm immersed in a Disney theme park.

Speaking of park themes, the most brilliant thing they did at the Tokyo Resort was give each park its own identity.

Tokyo Disneyland is the park for whimsy, fantasy, and magic.

DisneySea is where "imagination and adventure set sail". It's less about princes and princesses, characters and magic, and more about exploration and adventure, myths and legends.

I would have liked to see something like that in California. While individual rides may be fantastic at DCA, the park will be Disney park Frankenstein, with few rides supporting the others in theme.

You're underthinking it, in my opinion.

I got a bit lost when you all wanted to get rid of everything California in DCA, but insist that every bit of anything in the park is 100% California.

I'm not totally sold on the new gates, but I wouldn't mind them. I'd almost rather see the pan pacific look on the Hollywood entrance. I personally don't like the archway under the MirraCosta into TDS. It's small, boxy, and you get a strange view of the bottom of a volcano. Of course, that's what the monorail bridge will be, in a sense. It's almost like the "new" DCA will have a double entrance for the price of one.

I think the best mindframe for DCA or Disney parks in general, which I think is what Disney does, is take the themes and set those in the park and then interpret the themes from there. With themes set in place they can elaborate and branch off a bit. It makes it much easier to provide rides and entertainment that don't necessarily have to do with California. California theme>California Piers>Piers>Nautical/Mermaids. It's the same justification for Buzz. Tomorrowland theme>Space>Space stations>Buzz Lightyear. Whether or not you think Disney should go about it in this way is one thing but it makes sense to me. It fits its context and its context fits its larger theme. Ok, I'm kinda just rambling here.

Back on topic, how does PanPac aud make any more sense as the entrance for Disney Hollywood Studios? I'm not too familiar with the place or how it ties into either park. Maybe it kinda doesn't really have to in the way Disneyland's doesn't?

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

The two tunnels at Disneyland are also small and boxy. It acts as the gateway into another world. While DisneySea doesn't have the "Here you leave today" plaques, that is the effect it sort of has, at least when I was there.

Why bother traveling that far for the same thing that's in our backyard?"

The more to make these parks clones of each other the less incentive people have to visit each one.

how is the inside of the ride not related to the land hat it will be in. Not every attraction has to be about California. The attractions should have a connection to the land that its in. The land should then have a connection to the overall theme of the park. That is exactly what is being done.

Also how do we know that DHS will not get a new entrance. The park is going thru many considerations and it is also in the middle of a new name and rebranding.
