    removing the Golden Gate..........

so one of the biggest DCA visual landmarks to be removed is the Golden gate bridge at the entrance. I thought i would post a link to some cool info about the rumored proposed bridge to replace it The Glendale Hyperion viaduct.

here is a nice pdf that shows the bridges lighting, railing and other details

It's pretty but there's nothing spectacularly amazing about it which I think is a good thing considering all the other changes happening to the area. The need for a bridge was born out of the need to hide the monorail beam and having something pretty yet subtle like that works a lot better than a giant red cartoonish representation of the GGB which automatically draws your attention to it... only to find out it's for the monorail which you can't access from that park.

Still, it's incredulous that there's as of yet no plans to have the Golden Gate somewhere else in a CALIFORNIA theme park.

Looks like a regular old bridge. Boring.

I agree the subtle look of it will help it blend it better with the surronding area. Less of an attention getter. Cinder is also correct its a bit boring but hopefully WDI tries to duplicate it with as much detail as the original. Up close those old simple bridges have lots and lots of detailed work. The lighting and small towers will make a big difference especially at night.

Why remove the Golden Gate? That is as great and recognizeable of a bridge as it gets.

Most likely because it would clash with the look that will take over the area.

The bridge in Cars during the scene where Sally and Lightning race through the mountains is similar to what they are going to put in place.

(Yes, I watch Cars on a daily basis, I know these things.)

I never liked the Golden Gate Bridge there. For me, it didn't seem to fit well. If they put it in the San Fransico area, that would be good

I say use the GG elsewhere- as a forced perspective tool once Disney open a REAL San Francisco area in DCA.

    Uh, interesting choice.
Yes, our world has indeed become a world of motion. We have engineered marvels that take us swiftly over land and sea, through the air, and into space itself. And still bolder and better ideas are yet to come. Ideas that will fulfill our age old dream to be free. Free in mind. Free in spirit. Free to follow the distant star of our ancestors to a brighter tomorrow. - World of Motion (1982-1996)
