I'm glad to see construction starting in Hollywood Pictures Backlot. But why the name change to Hollywood Land. Is it just to be more Disneyland-ish and name everything land? I'm not too up to date on Hollywood's history, but I don't remember hearing Hollywood ever being called Hollywood Land. I do know the Hollywood sign use to read Hollywoodland because it's original intent was to advertise a housing development.

I think so, I always hated how they did the overlay with Bugsland and prefered it only as a sub land. Carsland name has bothered me more but obviously it's going to stick as well.
Hollywood Land will use the history as an explanation but your probably right on it just being used to advertise land. I think the thing is that Land tests really well with people who like Disneyland and want DCA to be more of a continuation of Disneyland's format. As such they're implimenting the land naming scheme into all the lands they can. Fortunatily the Grizzly Area, Pier and Warf don't lend themselves to this very well (just like New Orleans doesn't lend itself much either)"We all have sparks, imagination... it's how our minds... create creations..."

I think the original intent of the land was to be a "Backlot" akin to DHS, but it was never originally apparent this was the case. They tried to fix it with the "Hollywood Studios" mini-area, but that only further confused the land as you entered into "Hollywood Pictures Backlot" and then from there into "Hollywood Studios." A "studio within a studio" just doesn't make sense.I'm glad to see construction starting in Hollywood Pictures Backlot. But why the name change to Hollywood Land. I think they'd be better off renaming the area "Hollywood Land," especially since the main boulevard is more like a normal street. That'll help with the "Hollywood Studios" area making sense since (hopefully) there'll be a clearer distinction between the two sections.
Let's hope they address some of the architectural choices with this redo, too. I think a new facade for the Hyperion will help with establishing the idea that the main boulevard is an actual street (or supposed to be). I'm not sure how they're going to set the land in a different era, though, since some buildings are very much modern architecturally (Disney Animation comes to mind, as nice as the building may be). Perhaps a thematic redo of HPB is back in the plan?LIKE us at Facebook.com/MouseInfo

"Hollywoodland" was the original name of the housing development in that part of Los Angeles. The Hollywood sign was built in 1923 solely as the advertisement for this housing development, and originally spelled out "HOLLYWOODLAND" for the first 26 years of its existence. Hollywoodland is a real, historical reference point to early 20th-century Los Angeles.
(The "bad luck," 13-letter HOLLYWOODLAND sign had its "LAND" removed in 1949. The site of the sign had become a favorite place to jump off the mountain ridge for suicide attempters.)

That sounds about right to me, I'm fine with the street becoming the "real" Hollywood while the back area absorbs the backlot theme.
I have to say I really do like the false ending to the street and would hate to see it go though since it's such a cool little photo op. Animation building is a similar deal as it has a very pretty facade. I'd rather see the rest of the street worked on before they really worry about what still works. Maybe do something to make Award Weiners merge better with its seating area and the area around the bathrooms could do with more.
Honestly its the walk down to Tower that needs the actual facade work. I'd love for the Hyperion to actually get a lobby and simply have the facade to that pretend to be the whole theater to preserve the false end of the street.
I suppose the fact that the main Hollywood street is at least somewhat successful is why the plans to upgrade it are on the backburner while the clear failures are delt with.
If they could move some of the more successful studio elements from the mainstreet over to the "studios" area that would be cool. Maybe give Monsters Inc the false ending set design or something that looks prettier and more compelling. The facade to that ride is really kinda bleh and doesn't really deal with the studio as well as it should. A false ending there could bring more attention to the area and match the theme better."We all have sparks, imagination... it's how our minds... create creations..."

Carsland is quite possibly the worst name for a land in any Disney Park that I can think of. "A bugs land" was really clever as a play on words of the movie's title. Carsland sounds so amateur (like something you'd find at a cut-rate knock-off amusement park) and to me more so than "a bugs land" just seems more commercial-driven (pardon the pun) and doesn't quite encompass the meaning of the land as much as "a bugs land" does.
While Radiator Springs does sound like a good name for the area, I also understand why they steered clear of that because quite obviously Radiator Springs ISN'T in California and naming the land that seems like it would just be a bad call for the essence of the story. In as much, it seems like less of a faux pas to step into "Carsland" while you're in "Disney's California Adventure" than it would to step into "Radiator Springs." It's all just semantics, though.Joey AKA "dlfreak"

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."
Disneyland. My Anti-drug.
