Got to ride the Fun Wheel today. Looks like they are setting up some new lights over on top of what will be the new San Francisco restrooms to light up Mickey's face. They are the same type of lights they had on top of Golden Dreams for the Sun face. They are also setting up some other lights over on top of Midway Mania to light up the Sunburst on Screamin'. So give them time, they will have everything lit up!

in that video the Sunburst on Screamin also looks better. Seems like the center portion has a bright yellow glow with the blue edge around it.
I wonder if they will project a sun in th emiddle at night. that would be really cool

While I sit here in the Bahamas... drinking my coconut rum... I can't help but think that the lighting on the wheel, nice as it may be, is simply WAY too modern for the Victorian theme of the pier.
It reminds me of the Ferris wheel they have in Japan at Cosmoworld-
(themeparkreview.com)
I mean, yes it's nice, but those colors and animation patterns don't really represent the era of the pier they're tying to go for. I'd expect those crazy colors and patterns in a modern setting, not a mictorian pier...

Yeah...the lighting is cool but does look way too modern for a Victorian themed pier. Hopefully it's used only for WOC.

eeh, I don't s33 the point in complaining about the lighting, if they want to include the prettiest elements from both the classic style and the modern style let them. We've already established that truly classic wonder wheels were pretty darned st33l and ugly might as well spice things up with some magical lighting.
I'm sure I could come up with some sort of irrelevant comparison like the "magic" lighting on teh castle but honestly in the Pier they should probably do a mix. I'd personall perfer a backstory of a classical pier that's been recently restored in the modern era, something that allows for the shinyest of the new and the best of the classic (besides the modern coaster is already a liar)
I love how balanced the attractions sizes are on the Pier though, it lines up great for photos. Something that you never really s33 in all these photos of classic piers. Pretty much like modern carnivals or Six Flags, everything just seems to be shoved were it will fit.

While I don't have a problem with the lights changing colors, I still think that the setting of PP needs to be clearly set in the past. If there are a few "magical" elements like lighting and the coaster launch I just see those as taking a few liberties to create an idealic, romanitcised pier rather than a historic recreation. Still, overall the area needs to be able to suspend your disbelief enough that you feel like you really are at a boardwalk in the late '20's.

Or they could just work it in that Mr. Gustav (or whoever the heck is running PP now) was some sort of lighting genius about 80 years ahead of his time. Either way, that lighting is very cool.
Yes, our world has indeed become a world of motion. We have engineered marvels that take us swiftly over land and sea, through the air, and into space itself. And still bolder and better ideas are yet to come. Ideas that will fulfill our age old dream to be free. Free in mind. Free in spirit. Free to follow the distant star of our ancestors to a brighter tomorrow. - World of Motion (1982-1996)

I hate to be the one being the downer here, but, in going for a Victorian pier the lighting simply does not fit. Other Disney themes have gone to creating a idealic, romanticised recreation of a theme yet have stayed true to the times and characteristics of the era.taking a few liberties to create an idealic, romanitcised pier rather than a historic recreation.
To compare to time period themes in Disney- There's no scrolling lights in New Orleans square, there's no neon... Mainstreet has no colored lights scrolling around, it's all classic white bulbs using time period patterns.
Sure, is the rainbow lighting pretty? Absolutely, but, it simply is not victorian nor period appropriate if they're trying to go for a turn of the century pier.
Now, this of course is all null and void if the colored lights are solely for the use of WoC, anyone know yet?
