I think so because last night on matter cam it showed all the lights as yellow so it actually looked like a sun burst.

Really huh? So convenient how people ignore things that don't support their arguements. Ever noticed all the theatrical lighting on the roofs of the Mainstreet? I don't think any real mid-western towns had theater lighting with colored gels all over the place. How about all the crazy holiday lighting they put up for 2+ months of the year on MS? While a certain level of historic accuracy is required to allow our minds to step into the story that Disney is trying to tell us, exact historic accuracy is not really required for every detail in order for a park to be successful. In any case I have a feeling that the lighting will only be used for WoC, and I wouldn't want it on all the time. But if they had little light shows every 15 minutes from dusk until WoC started that would be fine with me. My concern with that would be less about theme and more about not taking anything away from the show.

Those are for accent lighting, not the main lighting that is part of the theming.
Holiday lighting is holiday lighting, it's up for a special event, not as part of the theming. How about all the crazy holiday lighting they put up for 2+ months of the year on MS?
Oh I agree. Just that the classical victorian feel is lost in bright primary colors. Not saying that the park is not successful due to the colors, just that the historical feel of the theme is lost. While a certain level of historic accuracy is required to allow our minds to step into the story that Disney is trying to tell us, exact historic accuracy is not really required for every detail in order for a park to be successful.
Anyways, as peeps have said, the colors seem to be used solely for the show, so, no worries.

I guess everyone will get their first chance to see what they will have the lights do on the Fun Wheel tomorrow night when DCA is open until 10. I am betting they will have some changing colors. They don't want to have to wait a year to really show what the wheel can do! I just doubt they do anything dramatic. They will save that for the WOC show.

that would be my concern too, I wouldn't want it to be overwhelming but I think a short show every now and again before or possibly after WoC.
I've already said that I think the lighting is one of the few things they got right in the origional Paradise Pier design and from the looks of it they may have managed to top themselves with it.
There's already some neon and other such elements present and I suppose I've also already outed myself as a person who doesn't care that the Maliboomer isn't a classic Victorian ride as I believe it fills a space that Disney has nothing place anything in for now and it balances out the Paradise Pier set rather well in an artistic sort of way.
I suppose I just don't s33 the point in sticking to a strictly Victorian setting on this one, maybe it's because I don't believe in the purity of most Piers so I'd rather just see some sort of optimized chimera of all piers that have ever existed.
Maybe I should concerned this one though, in most other circumstances I suppose I would request a more rigid application of theme. I've just always felt that the mix of lighting is great and I'd love to see it expanded on. I'm weird but I actually think the Pier makes for a cool venue to watch the electrical parade from for this reason.

I kinda see the bright colors working like this, Magic, its a disney themed pier why not have disney magic on some of the rides. Thats how I see it as being apart of the theme.

Just checked the mattercam to see what kind of colors the wheel uses during normal operation and the answer is....
Mostly red and orange....but uses lots of the multi-colors every now and then.Tonight we are going to share a wonderful dream come true together. In 1955 an amazing man named Walt Disney dreamt of a Magic Kingdom...

Looks like Mint Crocodile went to DCA tonight to get some video of the first night the wheel is lit up for guests. Look really cool!
There are still some spokes out unfortunately. But I would think they are still working on it..
And a final note.. so much for them saving all the colors for the World of Color show!

it's so mesmerizingly beautiful

it makes me just want to run and take a few rides on that wheel myself
I've got to had it to modern era WDI, they know how to do their lighting effects. More then ANYTHING else they ever do they tend to just nail lighting.
Pier has got to be one of the prettiest places to be at night just because of the lighting (yeah I'm a big fan of shiny's) probably the only time it really pulls setting for me practically
DCA REALLY needs to be open later, nightime is when the park really stands out (daytime not so much).
