Others have mentioned what those structures are (I do wish they had gone with the more elaborate version also shown in the Cellar, but oh well...), but I wanted to comment on the defunct boardwalk. I recently had a very in depth conversation with a guide at the Cellar (a post on this is forthcoming). Over the course of talking about all aspects of the DCA project, the boardwalk came up. I asked if it could every reappear someday. Her position was that the boardwalk was to serve a very specific purpose (she wouldn't really say what it was), and that it was no longer needed. I wonder if anyone with connections could dig up what this purpose was, and what changed? Anyway, I doubt we will ever see the concept come back, just based on what she said.

Perhaps it is true that originally it was intended for extra WoC viewing space until the show became a lot more "front-centric." Just a thought.

That's very possible. Also, the need for more projectors may have taken up the space where the boardwalk would have been.

I'm beginning to think they just removed them because the reflective problem during the WOC show. I think it was more of an "Oh my gosh we need those gone thing". Maybe they can put some stone work up at some point.

I certainly hope so. Putting on some nice rockwork like what they're doing over in the WOC viewing area would both be nice and begin to spread around and connect the general theme of the entire area.

Thing is there's other areas of the pier where unthemed cement work seems to be ok for theming... so I worry that this may be the case here as well.

I thought they got rid of all that, but maybe that's because all people take pics of is the new stuff.
