I noticed they've left the metal striping on the top of the retaining walls. Last I saw during my trip last week is that they were cleaning the cement around the wheel with some strong chemicals.

Judging that they've begun cleaning the area (sweeping and washing) in prep of refilling and that the wheels retaining wall connects to the bland cement walls around it, I'm betting we'll be getting a cement wall around the wheel.

I really hope they do something to those retaining walls. Please, something!

agreed, it doesnt have to be fancy but i just hope for something, some level of detail that adds to the wheel and the theme...

How many layers of lipstick can Disney add to this pig?

After having been on it a few times over the past few months... it is just horrible. Metal gear and equipment for the attraction visible all over the place, stupid poorly thought out queue, ugly cement retaining walls on both the inside and outside, and a modern canvas above the queue that matches nothing else in the area.

Sure, neat lights on the wheel and yay for a fun relaxing or riveting ride, but it's horrible.

Agreed...unique ride mechanism...left completely exposed. This never felt Disney to me.

I wouldn't count on many more additional theming elements for this one. I think the spectacular light show was the big ooo-ahh reveal of the refurb.

I agree with all but this:

Metal gear and equipment for the attraction visible all over the place
Are you talking about the supports and structure for this ride? How else would you do it then? I guess you could put it in a giant building with stuff along the inside of the walls for a story/theme and hide the supports from those humans on the outside.

I used to wonder just how they could cover some of the mechanisms for the Fun Wheel up, until I went to the Irvine Spectrum and saw their Ferris wheel. They have these basic coverings that hide the motors and tires that turn the wheel. Looks like basic sheet metal, just formed and painted to hide the tires. Once I saw that, I just could not figure out why they did not do that to the Fun Wheel? So simple looking.
