Take a look at this:

There are cuts at the north end of the fun wheel and a tarped area near the current queue. There is a bunch of material for boardwalks between the wheel and the swings.
... and the front supports are painted.

Another note, the tarped area has a bunch of shingles on it. You can see orange spray paint circling the base of the wheel.

I must say, that is very interesting. I'm curious to see what happens between now and April!

I'm not holding my breath for the walkwaround boardwalk but I imagine that they are ARE going to at least redress the mirrors and surrounding area. No more band-aids, the Pier is already looking so much better.

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

The shingles are for the Boardwalk Games buildings. I'm not sure about those stacks of borads though. They might be there for storing for the games area too. The footings do look like they could be for future expansion or just part of the WOC show. I would hope they were smart enough to put in footings for the future so they don't have to drain the water out again.

I agree those shingles being painted look like they are the ones being used for the midway games. looks like its a prep area
Those stacks of wood look like they are framings for concrete pads. They also have all that rebar which seems to be used for all the pads being placed around the bay for pipe and effect supposrts for WOC.
I still do not think the walk around boardwalk will be built. I do think they might be adding somekind of wooden accent around the attraction.
What i did find interesting was the artwork they added on one of the walls. They show the funwheel and next to it a large old fashion motor as if thats the wheels motor

I was looking at the hole that was cut out by the NW edge of the Fun wheel today and it looks like it would be in perfect alignment for a support to an extended boardwalk. But I also noticed that the other NE side (towards the direction of Ariel's), has a similar hole but further from the Fun Wheel than the other hole's distance. After you pointed out the mechanism on that end, it would make sense to be a little further out if it were supporting a boardwalk with the mechanism. In the concept art, that left side of the boardwalk looks like it extends out a bit more than the otherside. I like the surround concept of the boardwalk, but this concept looks fine to me.

I would bet that boardwalk would be a cool spot to be during the world of color
