Not keen on tunnel of love, it's limiting and I just don't see that type of theme working for the park. As a pier attraction yes but as a pier attraction in a Disney park, not really. It's sort of like a Great Movie Ride concept but I dunno... just doesn't really work fro me in that context.

Great Movie Ride fits in HPB, why they never did that I don't understand. But if they do decide to put it in at some point, it would be dumb to have that and a ride on the pier. Am I making sense?

I think a flume ride would have fit perfectly in the area that will be taken over by the beergarden. They even have the long trench where the ristworthy is
The boat would go down the drop under the parade route and into the bay then turn back and head back to the attraction. That trench would create an awesome water splash.
as for the theme that kind of tricky for a pier environment but maybe it could be a new twist on a funhouse idea using a flume ride.

I always imagined a Tunnel of Love style boat ride with Disney movie scenes. It could have been very easy to be creative with that. TLMM just screams boat ride to me too. I am still very apprehensive about TLMM. No thrill elements at all? The fact that they aren't trying anything new with the Omnimover also has me concerned. Repeatability is a huge issue in Anaheim. One more Omnimover that only does what it normally does. Meh. Too bad they couldn't figure out the suspended vehicles.

Are boat rides an issue now because of the expanding waist lines of people? Boats can vary dramatically in weight depending on guests, which can cause problems at the bottom of flumes. POTC jumped the rails a few times before they fixed the end of the drop. IASW apparently bottomed out from the weight.
I think that is what makes a water coaster more desirable. You can keep the boat attached to a guidance system at all times and not worry about it coming off the flume.
Just a guess on my part.

Passive experiences in general are losing steam at least in the corporate mentality of the company, if it's not doing something to you or if you're not interacting with it in someway then they just aren't interested. Case and point the SSE remodel with the addition of the interactivity bit.

Maybe they could make a perilous plunge type ride with a disney theme to it. It could start out as a tunnel of love, then an evil villian takes over and you come to a track switch, the boat goes to either side where the boat goes on an elevator. The elevator goes up and the track combines and turns right, then finally makes a steep drop under the parade route into the lagoon. It then will then return to the station by going under the ground showing some more scenes of the villians being defeated and anything else theme wise.

well I think it had something to do with Great Movie ride needint tons of updates, how good it is depends greatly on who's giving you the tour, most of the ride is boring except the parts that invovle your guide I suppose, they never repair the ride so anything else that might have been rewarding about it is lost since most of the animatronics in it are incapable of movement.
anywho a tunnel of love would likly have weaknesses at least in providing any sort of consistency (I hate how movie based rides regurgitate movies plots rather then doing something origional and to further this into what essentially becomes a clip show that I have to ride through really makes me go "meh")
I don't think a random thrill would be fitting either (to comment on another post)
Little Mermaid should be tunnel of lovy enough for me, though I suppose I wouldn't mind another darkride on the Pier

I'd like a ride that obscured of some of the buildings that ruin the Pier theme for me e.g the Paradise Pier Hotel. Sure you would no longer have theme park views from PPH but I think that is secondary to the in-park experience.
Carsland models show a massive amount of rockwork being used to obscure power lines and such and it seems a shame that Paradise Pier will be stuck with its very un-Victorian multi-story hotel in full view.
At least the Grand Californian is more suited to the Grizzly Peak area, but even it is a bit too intrusive for my liking.

I would not mind seeing an attraction using a ride system like "Atlantis" in seaworld.
The lift elevator would save space and the coaster section could be housed in the back stage area in a building.
