Re: New 50th Anniversary Thread
Well, I now assume we're getting a decent omnimover, a slightly better SM, an exhibit, and the standard celebration offerings. Anything more, that's great. Anything less, oh well. I have learned not to care anymore because nothing amazing or fascinating has happened at DL in years, so I will just accept what is there and enjoy it.

Re: New 50th Anniversary Thread
It sounds like the plans for the 50th went into a deep rethink. Cynthia and her team seem like they were kind of bungling the whole thing and were about to present an underwhelming package of offerings for the 50th. Then Cynthia was suddenly fired 60 days ago, and almost all of her Senior Vice Presidents and some Vice Presidents were fired within 30 days as well.
From the rumors and leaks that have come out, it sounds like Matt and all of his new Vice Presidents that he brought in within days of his arrival are looking hard at what can be salvaged and what should be built from scratch with the shortening amount of time that's left.
I doubt we'll hear much more until the first of the year. Miceage has had the most solid rumors and rumblings, and Marcie has said that Miceage is correct that there will be a press event in February for the 50th. It looks like the "New TDA" is racing against the clock to piece together a revamped 50th package over the next 6 or 8 weeks, before the official announcement is made.
But then, the first offiical announcement was supposed to be 8 months ago, and that got canned and swept under the rug at the last second with Jay Rasulo standing up Cynthia in front of 10,000 Cast Members at Cast Blast. So who knows! Anything can, or can not, happen at Disneyland.

Re: New 50th Anniversary Thread
Oh invader sky, that would be just as exciting as having a new one for teh 50th in my eyes. So is the big announcement of teh plans in Feb? or is that just to build up momentum and press for the real show?
Marcie do you or anyone else have anything new to share?
Whats the omnimover? the mainstreet bus thing? I didn;t hear we were getting a new one!

Re: New 50th Anniversary Thread
An Omnimover is a type of ride system comprised of a long string of continuously moving cars. They traditionally have a very high hourly capacity of over 2,000 passengers an hour, and they are very reliable.
The name "Omnimover" was created in the 1960's by Bob Gurr and his fellow Imagineers when they created the basic concept for the Ford Motor Company Pavilion and it's Magic Skyway ride at the 1964-65 New York World's Fair. Haunted Mansion is the most well known Omnimover currently in existence, but Monsanto's Adventure Thru Inner Space attraction was Disneyland's first Omnimover when it opened in Tomorrowland in August, 1967.
The Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin attraction in WDW uses the old Omnimover system first built in 1974 for the Eastern Airlines sponsored If You Had Wings attraction. It is strongly rumored that the Disneyland version of Buzz Lightyear will have a brand new Omnimover system built specifically for the attraction.Last edited by TP2000; 12-19-2003 at 02:31 PM.

Re: New 50th Anniversary Thread
No. They have individual cars that start and stop along the track. An Omnimover is a long string of continuously moving cars. Haunted Mansion is the only Omnimover currently in Disneyland.
