Re: What is DCA's Theme? (Take 2)
Then why didn't you select "Other" and then provide a theme? You obviously chose one of the provided answers because you believe that was the theme to DCA.

Because I selected the one that I felt best fit. Will I need to repeat this again? I said this exact same thing in a previous post. Then why didn't you select "Other" and then provide a theme?
I'd like to know what these "Most people" have answered. It's certainly not the question you asked. You may contact me via jonvn@nadelberg.com.

But there was a selection for "Other". Surely an educated and mature person like yourself can formulate their own answer.

If the two of you would like to explain to each other how a poll does or does not work, please continue via PM, and not on the boards.

Re: What is DCA's Theme? (Take 2)
I guess I'll repeat it again: I picked the choice that I thought would be a best fit which encompasses the basic theme of "California." I think that's three times now I've said this. Is there a particular reason you feel a need to repeatedly ask the same questions?
But there was a selection for "Other". Surely an educated and mature person like yourself can formulate their own answer.
Like what I did, they will pick whatever they think is a best fit for their answer. I fully understood your question, your answers were not very good. This is a common problem with polls. I would think that someone who posts a poll, though, would know what his question actually meant. And if he meant something else other than his question, he'd ask that question instead.Well, according to the poll, "most people" answered something that wasn't "Other". Therefore, one can assume that they understood the question and the answers.
But I didn't really think this topic was supposed to be about polls.
The theme of the park is California. That is so blatantly obvious and easily understood that this discussion isn't even about that now. It's just your attempt at trying to provoke an argument. If you want to talk about the subject matter of your thread, fine. Otherwise, I see little point in furthering discussion in this area.Last edited by jonvn; 02-20-2004 at 10:52 AM.

Re: What is DCA's Theme? (Take 2)
In any case, the topic is what is DCA's theme. Obviously, that is California. So, what is it that some folks are thinking about here?
It's more along the lines of how the theme was implemented. Is it a recreation of California? Is it a Disney version of some of California highlights? Well, it's all of these things. Overall, it's a California umbrella with various California sub themes.
Much like Frontierland in Disneyland is not the entire Frontier, or a replacement for the entire frontier, or contains all the frontier had and everything else surrounding it, DCA has California as it's theme.
The theme is what is just the spark point for the stuff that follows. It's not a legal contract. There is a lot of leeway in what can and can not fit into a theme. But in DCA, just about everything does fit in with the theme. I think the thing that chiefly does not fit is the bugs area, but that was in from day one.
A lot of this theming looseness has always been in the parks. Not as bad as it has been in the past few years, but it's always been there. Really, Abraham Lincoln was long dead by the time 1910 rolled around on Main Street. There really weren't english omnibuses rolling down too many midwestern towns back then, either. There wasn't really anything futuristic about America The Beautiful, and Small World really had nothing to do with the Fantasyland it went into, either.
It's just a theme in a theme park. DCA is a Disney theme park like every other one. The stuff in it basically conforms to some semblence of the theme, and that's generally good enough. In fact, nearly everything in DCA adheres rather strictly to the surrounding theme, more so than you see in Disneyland in some cases.
It's just how the themes are worked now.Last edited by cinder; 02-20-2004 at 11:28 AM.

Re: What is DCA's Theme? (Take 2)
Should a ride called "Star Trek: The Final Frontier" be placed in Frontierland? Just because it shares the same name, doesn't mean it fits the theme.
