AP's
I read that article, and about the AP, I don't know, but wouldn't be a good thing to have lots of AP's. Because then those people will keep coming back and spend more $$. That's dumb to say that the AP is underpriced. I have a premium and it costs $279! I remember when it cost $199, and that was just 4 years ago. I love Disneyland and I want to keep coming back, but I don't want to work so hard just to pay for it.

Re: Still no crowds.
On Friday, July 2nd, the park didn't look busy. Around 20 minute wait for TOT, but it gotten worse when the day turned into night as it usually does on a Friday.
On Monday, July 5th, the park is crowded. 50 minute wait for TOT.
I think the truth is in the middle. DCA is doing better, but not what you might expect with a shiny new ride.

Re: Still no crowds.
The thing I got from the article is that both parks were down.
Can you blame DCA is DL isn't pulling people either?
I don't think so, I think it shows that DL hasn't received a quality new ride in 10yrs."Have you been on Autopia before....I tell you. You don't drive it, it drives you."- My Grandfather

Re: Still no crowds.
Remember, that over the last year and half, the 2-fer tickets was heavly advertised, and available for 13 months. The local folks (Non-AP'ers) have visited DL recently and there is no real reason to come back, especially at full price......

Re: Still no crowds.
When I was at the parks 4 weeks ago, it seemed packed to me. Hour wait for ToT, but I did notice it was only running 2/3rds of the shafts.
For me, the drastic increase in the PAP this year forced me to a DAP. Heck, I only went on 1 or 2 blockout days last year, so the PAP really wasn't worth it.
I suspect that the light Saturday crowds, and based on my trip 4 weeks ago where it seemed the weekday crowds were larger than expected, maybe the start of a shift away from PAPs to DAPs. In my mind, that is a good thing. Get the APs in on the weekdays. It will take a few years, but eventually the word will get out to non-AP holders that weekends and holidays are nopt as bad as they once were. Then, the full price payers will come out and pay full price to get in on the non-crowded weekends and holidays.
Notice the drop he speaks of is Saturdays and the Holiday weekend. The days blocked out by the DAP. Sundays aren't down. Weekdays aren't down. Just the days blocked out by the DAP.

Re: Still no crowds.
well, you also got to realize that DLR had a record breaking Christmas season, many people only go to DLR once a year at most,if your not a AP.So the average guests are probably thinking "we just went in Dec.,no need to go now"....also the news of the big 50th is out,and many people,id imagine alot of out of towners, are gonna hold off any trips until 2005...

Re: Still no crowds.
I think it could be easily expected that there were countervailing trends with the new ToT attraction and all the publicity versus the heavy discounts the last few years and the increased blackout dates. As others have said, a lot of locals took advantage of the Parks last year at a discount price and thus are not ready to go back so soon at fully price.
Regarding Woody’s comments about the park being crowded 4 weeks ago. I have read that the crowds at DCA heavily fluctuated with the So. Cal AP blackout dates (Friday and Saturday for most of June and only fully blocked out toward the end of June).
I have to think that the combination of discounts last year, the 10 year drought for a major new attraction at DL, all the construction walls, and the 50th coming up would have some negative effect on park attendance. I don't know how much ToT will affect DL attendance (up or down).
Hey, but if it is true that attendance is down, I might schedule an unplanned trip this summer.
