Is anybody else sick of the clones?

It just seems to me, that overall all four Disney resorts, which include California, Florida, Paris, and Tokyo are way to stuck on the clone thing.

I mean, first at Disney's California Adventure, we get another Tower of Terror, a very top ride at Disney MGM but supposed to be unique at a studio. Next thing you know California adds it and tries to say "DCA's Hollywood Backlot" is supposed to be a studio. Next thing you know it's coming to Tokyo DisneySea, so now it's not only a movie studio ride, but a water ride? And now it's coming to Paris as well. Come on what really is the theme of this ride?

The next combo 101 for all Disney resorts is now Buzz, first of all not that great of a ride at WDW, (try MIB at Universal if you want to do this thing well), once again "if it's good enough at one resort, it must be good enough for all the resorts", so Buzz is going into California and now even Paris.

Sorain is the same thing, a great attraction at DCA, but a cheap imitation is soon coming to Epcot.

The stunt show at Disney MGM will also be no different, simply a good show from Paris, will now try to convince you that a studio themed park in Florida is a hip movie studio, simply because they copied a show from Paris, that still really has no basis on any Disney project ever worked on.

The only unique attraction I see coming, is Expidition Everest, and although I have issues with that very idea as well, at least it's one (and the only one) attraction coming soon that will be a unique attraction, and not another clone.

2004 is my first year ever to not vist DLR yet, and to be honest, it's simply because we get all the clones out here too. When and if they get back to the idea of original attractions, I might plan my next California trip. Don't get me wrong, I love DLR (don' really think much of DCA though). My point is that it wil take a lot more then a clone of a ride already at WDW, to book my next trip to DLR.

Yes I'm curious to experiance DCA's TOT, but not enough to justify a trip when it's out here in Florida.

I just think Disney could do better, I really like to be excited about new things, but clones just don't get me excited enough to plan trips, I think Mission Space was a real winner, and I think the next one will be Expedition Everest. I just don't think the clones of TOT at DCA, and TDS and WDS, nor the clones of Buzz at DLR and DLP, nor the clones of Soarin at Epcot, wil do it.

    At least not for me.

Disney could do better, but thier running out of ideas but the last non-clone ride we got was IJA. The new show at dca was a clone(playhouse disney came after Aladdin right?) and the next new ride comming to dlr is a clone.

If we got Monsters Inc then that would be the non-clone ride in about 7years. But Tot is a great ride

ah you bring up the entire SSL soap opera issue that origiankly had me a DCA fan, If they would only bring that back, cheesy as it was, I'd be happy that DCA had a unique attraction.

Sigh,... the management of DCA just doesn't get it.

BBMMfan11 said that they are running out of ideas. That is not the case at all. Managment at the parks are worried about spending millions of dollars on a ride that could be unpopular with the public. Instead they go with a ride that already has a good reputation at another park and build it there.'

Personally I don't mind clones. It's when all they do is build clones is when I get annoyed. I'm glad to have a Tower of Terror and Buzz Lightyear at the parks. They both will add energy to their areas of the parks. Now, I am annoyed that they decided to clone the Pooh ride from WDW than the one from Tokyo. Another thing that bugs me is the cloning of Soarin. They are putting it in Epcot without even changing the theme. Why a ride about California in Florida? Anyways I think they should just limit cloning to very very small amounts and focus on new origonal attractions.

I dont care if its a clone or not,as long as its a quality attraction, most guests dont get a chance to go to Florida and California or even Tokyo,so much of these clones are brand new to them,Ive never been to Florida so a ride like TOT is basically new to me.

Id much rather get a clone like DCAs TOT that is a quality attraction then a attraction like Mummy (USH) that is unique but really really lacking and not impressive (also getting terrible reviews). So bottom line,as long as its a good quality ride,I dont care.

You prety much summed it up, although you may personally not mind clones, most of us see them for what they are, attractions opening that spend less, but try to promote themsels as opening as unique attractions at uniue parks.

It's this very management that fears unpopularity of a new atteraction, that has to face up to responsibily, even in the pre clone days management was accountable, what's changed in this day and age is management wants a free ride to say "but they liked it at park A", "So I aproved it at Park B.". It makes no sense to say DCA is a unique place from Disney MGM, even though you'll see Muppet Vision 3D at both parks

Management probaly should go back in the room and once again spend millions, that's what worked before, it's what is failing today, but could possibly work again in the future.

Re: Is anybody else sick of the clones?

If they are worried of the public not liking a ride maybe they can visit disney site's and/or do a survey and have a list of choices and people can give the opine on whether the ride is good or not
    ok

I dont really mind them. I just get mad when dlr gets the lesser themed clones that are wattered down. Think about when disneyland and magic kingdom were the only 2 disney parks. They both got the same attractions back then also. the only problem is that theres so many more parks now and it feels like they just keep cloning everything. Plus, dlr gets all the clones from wdw cuz they got more room and more parks they have to build rides for.

Don't even get me started on Universal, becuase they are just as guilty, although I have not ridden Mummy in Hollywood, Mummy in Orlando was hyped up to be much more then it really is, in reality it's a fun attraction, but far far to short, with many unspectacular show elements.

In the war of Mission Space and Revenge of the Mummy, the winner is clearly .......... Mission Space.
