Re: underground tunnels
There aren't underground tunnels as you might think of them at DL, unlike WDW, which has quite a few underground corridors.
Tomorrowland has a basement area near the Club Buzz stage, to allow for the storage of stage props, and a place for the entertainers to prepare and load onto the stage.
They built an "underground" path for the Rocket Rods queue, but that was just a few years ago.
New Orleans Square has a basement area also, mainly used for the handling of food prep.
But there are no connecting underground corridors between lands, etc.....
There are plenty of above ground backstage areas that allow CM's to get from place to place in certain areas of the park.Check out my photos at http://darkbeer.smugmug.com

Re: underground tunnels
Yes, WDW has the Utilidoors... Place is amazing, I recall walking around there on several occasions. It is virtually a maze, and you can get lost if you do not know your way around...

Re: underground tunnels
I remember they went down there on Walt Disney World Inside Out, it was neat. Each land (above you) is color coordinated on the walls to help you figure out where you are. There are all kinds of things down there from what I remember including breakrooms, and a barber shop!

I'm addicted to Disneyland. Disneyland hobbies are expensive. If I become a bum people are going to say "Don't give him money, he's just gonna use it on Disneyland."

Re: underground tunnels
Even in WDW they aren't "underground" per se...the Magic Kingdomis actually something like 14 feet above ground and the utillidors are pretty much at ground level.
Or so I've read.

Re: underground tunnels
My friends and I found Chester Copperpot the last time we were in the tunnels under dl.
...the value of an idea has nothing whatsoever to do with the sincerity of the man who expresses it.

Re: underground tunnels
Well Darkbeer, you are sort of right, however you are right that none of the tunnels connect.

Fantasyland has an operations office, food prep kitchen, merchandise storage, Sound room, and a Cast Member break area under Village Haus and Pinocchio's Daring Journey.
There are basements under a few of the shops along Main Street.
There is a complete main kitchen for all of the restaurants of New Orleans Sqaure, as well as a Cast Member cafeteria and offices under the the entire land.
Under Winnie the Pooh attraction was a central Sound and Computer room for all of the park similar to DACS under the Magic Kingdom, but the idea of centralizing all of the parks audio and animatronics commands under the then Country Bear Jamboree attraction was changed in the 1980's. Now all of the parks attraction audio and animatronics commands have been decentralized to each respective land and/or attraction location. This makes it easier and quicker for downtimes to be fixed by Facilities' Cast Members if it involves show and sound problems.
However, all of the park's area audio comes from Audio Central above the Bank of Main Street.
And there are other little basements scattered around the park. There is one tunnel that connects from behind the New Orleans Train Station to the Rivers of America for pumping equipment and there is a water tunnel that connects Rivers of America with the Jungle Cruise river that runs under Riverbelle Terrace.
The idea of the Utilidors for WDW came form the extensive tunnel system under the Disneyland Hotel. That entire hotel complex is serviced by underground tunnels that completely encircles the pool area with each building connected by the same set of tunnels. Very similar to the Magic Kingdom.Last edited by Marcie; 09-26-2004 at 05:59 PM.

Re: underground tunnels
On the contrary, Darkbeer was right; his reply just was not as thorough as yours.
