Re: Are Downtown Disney and the Hotels Doing Well?

WDW is 77% of 8,540 rooms with average per room spending of $198
Last year was 76% of 7,550 at $202 per

DLR is 87% of only 816 rooms at $253 per
Up from 84% and $245 last year

Four parks for 8,540 rooms. Two parks for 816 rooms.

Is it any wonder WDW gets way more capital improvement budget than DLR? They make WAY more money on an out of towner staying in a resort hotel room than on a local visiting with their AP.

Uhm. Could you clarify those numbers please? DLH has 900+ rooms, the Grand has 745 rooms, and the Pier has 400+ newly-renovated rooms.

    Sorry....

Column was rooms X nights in thousands. My bad.

So 816,000 room nights / 366 nights = ~2230 rooms available per night on average.

Of those 816,000 room nights, they sold 87% of them.

WOW, so WDW has 8,540,000 room nights / 366 = 23,333 rooms per night?!?!

Holy crud that is a lot of rooms!

Re: Are Downtown Disney and the Hotels Doing Well?

It's actually "Available Room Nights (in thousands)". So, really it's WDW=8,540,000 room nights, and DLR=816,000 room nights.

Which for a 366 day year (2004 was a leap year) works out to an average of 23,333.33 rooms per night at WDW, and 2,229.5 rooms per night at DLR.

Renovations and planned closures during the off-season would make up for the fractional room counts, I assume.

    EDIT:
Oh sure, while I'm doing the math, I get beaten to the answer. Oh well.

Re: Are Downtown Disney and the Hotels Doing Well?

WDW has 6808 deluxe rooms, 7135 moderate rooms, 8640 value rooms, and 2244 home away from home/DVC rooms. That comes to 24,827 rooms.

DL has 2243 rooms from what I've seen (PP 502, DLH 990, GCH 751).

For comparison, Universal Orlando with its 3 hotels has 2404 rooms.
