I haven't paid that much attention to the 50th Anniversary ad much, but have been seeing it more and more on TV. I developed some thoughts on it.
Although the idea of Disney characters all traveling to Disneyland is cute, I think the ad is only so-so since it really doesn't say that it is DISNEYLAND'S 50th Anniversary. It is not the Disney Company's 50th, the Studios 50th or the 50th of any of the other Disney Parks.
IMO, it should have paid at least a little some homage to WALT and the creation of the one and only original park, DISNEYLAND. Without him, there would be no DL 50th to start with.
Just seems to me like the current ad is another opportunistic corporate promotion plugging Disney Company and not Walt Disney or Disneyland. Maybe I missed the point.

Re: 50th Anniversary ad so-so?
I also think the commercial is a little confusing about what exactly is being celebrated. WDW every year has something it is celebrating and so I think most people will probably think it is just another gimmick. the commercials should state that Disneyland in California is celebrating its 50th birthday and everyone is in on the celebration. There is nothing wrong with WDW celebrating DL's 50th, but I think they should acknowledge what is being celebrated. I hope they come out with another commercial soon that has the old black and white film of Walt dedicating DL and actually shows DL and then breaks off to all the other parks around the world celebrating.

Re: 50th Anniversary ad so-so?
I think the commercial is vaige on purpose, its the first ad,its a "teaser" ad.It is vaige enough to make people think "hmmm I wonder what is going on? 50 yrs of what?"...it makes the audience think..then in a month or so they will probably follow up with a more specific ad featuring Disneyland to piece it all together..its good marketting.
remember when Snow White the musical was about to premiere and all the billboards just said "Snow is coming"....then in a month or so the billboards were more specific showcasing Snow White more? I think that is similar to what we are seeing here.

Re: 50th Anniversary ad so-so?
In a way, the ad seems unintentionally cruel. All the characters are going to Disneyland (where I thought they already lived, but I digress...) and then the voice over says, "everybody's going to be there; the only one missing is you," leaving the little boy in the dust. It's sort of like saying, "all of Hollywood's biggest stars will be at the Academy Awards; the only one missing is you...Haha!" Now I know that's not what they're intentionally saying, but it could be interpreted that way.
Another way to look at it is either the little boy convinces his parents to cough up the $2,000 to fly to California or Florida (it looks like he lives in New England), or he misses out on all the fun. Sad.

From what I have been hearing Nemo is right. They are starting with pretty vague commercials. Then it will go to more specific to Disneyland Resort.
Seth Cohen: It was a liitle weird. And not like kinky weird, more like akward. But hey, you know what? It was my first time, she's a more experienced woman, that's to be expected. But I did make some faces in the middle that I wish I could take back but I can't and there was also a sort of whiny noise that came out at the end that probaly wasn't my finest hour and...I sucked so bad! I was like a fish flopping around on dry land. I was Nemo and I just wanted to go home.

Re: 50th Anniversary ad so-so?
it seems to me that the whole 50th anniversary commercial will be based on more of the Disneyland Resport; it will take time. Maybe a few months before the actual July anniversary, the commercials will take a turn to a Disneyland approach.
I would wait before I take any judgement before I see what the ACTUAL anniversay date ,July 17, will show me on the tv.

There will also be market-specific commercials from what I've read. Meaning us New Yorkers won't be treated to much Disneyland specific advertising, but a lot of WDW ads. Opposite for those in say, Las Vegas.

Re: 50th Anniversary ad so-so?
That's already happening here. I haven't seen the big DLR 50th ad outside of my tape of the Rose Parade. The ad they have been playing a lot down here is the "So This Is Love" Dog ad edited around to feature WDW.

Re: 50th Anniversary ad so-so?
Those WDW ads appear to be nationwide... we're seeing them here too a lot.
And those aren't really 50th ads for them either, those are meant to promote the new "Magic Your Way" promotion.
have yet to see any 50th ads besides edited down versions of the rose parade ad. which is a great ad, but isn't yet resort specific for us either.
There have started changing the billboards they own along local freeways to an image of tink against a blue background with only two words on it "Come Home."
It is making me smile as I drive back and forth to work these days.Last edited by Sydney; 01-28-2005 at 10:41 AM.
