    Stupid Pirates question

    Hey,

I just got home from Disneyland and have always wondered something, but I think the answer is obvious.

Do you actually go underground in Pirates? I ask because there is so much rock in the first few scenes and so much detail, I just assumed it was real. Also, the 'earthy' smell makes me wonder as much too..

That being said, I think the answer is no - and perhaps it really is just a good scene..but I thought I'd ask..

    Anybody?

    RY

Yes, you do go below surface level. New Orleans Square is built mostly on top of the cavern scenes, before you go past the berm, under the train tracks, and into the show building. This happens in the tunnel after you see the big treasure, and before the battle scene. The rocks, however are all man-made. The smell...we'll that's just Disneyland smell.

    BTW, not a stupid question.

The ride is underground, but I believe the rockwork is artificial.

FYI...WDW's Pirates does not go underground, due to the water table in FL. That's why WDW's has one, very short waterfall in the begining. The Magic Kingdom is built 1 story above ground, The park being the second "floor" and the first being utildoors and service areas.

Are you sure POTC goes underground, as in natural ground is over your head at some point. I thought the whole complex was a four story building with the "ground" of NOS built up to the second level like at WDW. I know you do go under the berm into the showbuilding outside the park, but are you ever actually "underground"?

Pirates goes under the New Orleans Square complex but does not actually go underground as that complex is built far above the ground. You can see this by observing the second Pirates buiding (outside the berm) which is completely above ground.

Actually Pirates doesn't go underground at all.. first they start with having you climb all those stairs in the que, to bring you off the ground level by the river (if memory serves me right, NOS was built on the remaining dirt mound from the dug out river) so now, you're techincally above ground level. The first drop lowers you half way down, and the second one completes it. The caves are in the basement of the building which was intended for the Gallery of Rogues walk through. You clear the berm, and go into the showroom... so.. thats it!
