I personally don't think it would have worked if it all flowed. I think Steve and the musical director made good choices.
The Wishes music being used came down to a few things, if I can remember.
From what I was told by several sources, is that Eisner wanted to just copy Wishes, and Steve knew that Disneyland deserved its own show. So in the end they compromised, with still bringing Wishes over to DL, but changing out the middle segments to reflect the 50th of disneyland- hence, E-tickets in the sky. In the end, Steve ended up going all out and creating practically a brand new show. Other than the little wishes parts, and they are small, the two shows across the country are completely different.
and I believe it was not a cut and paste job with the wishes part. Remember was recorded with a big 80 piece+ orchestra, I believe, and the whole thing was recorded new and fresh, including the borrowed wishes segments.
we may have all like original music for the show, but it was a struggle enough to get a new fireworks show for the 50th period, so we should be grateful. and Remember is one of Steve's finest pieces of work.
and using the Leann Rimes song I believe was too late in the game and the music and show was already in rehearsels. thus, using it as Exit music.
That's why I like Remember...Dreams Come True more than Wishes.

Others may have a fuller and more musical array, but I think "Wishes" depicts the whimsical side of Disney, the more childlike side.
