Sure thing E! It's a definite great time to be a Disney park enthusiast, very exciting time. I might also add, the past few attractions have been real hits for both parks. Buzz, Tower, and Monsters have been a huge success, and from what I have read on many of the Disney fan boards, there has been substantial approval for each of these attractions. Not to mention the excitement following the Subs, at least I know I am excited!

I believe the "stinkers" of the recent past are well behind the WDI team and management overseeing the DLR. It's in the parks best interest to have something new, different, and unique to maintain the uptick in attendance the parks have been consistently achieving. There is no going back down the path of rides like Superstar Limo and the Pooh Ride.

The future is looking good.

Can you tell I watched some Tony Robbins tonight?

It's about time... Just like the kid-friendly Monsters was severely needed in the Tower area, this kid-friendly dark ride for the Screamin area is sure to be a hit too.

All I want this ride to be is a breath of fresh air. I haven’t seen an original dark ride built in I don’t know how long and I am starting to wonder if management supports originally based rides. I understand synergy and all but there is already an attraction for this franchise, and with nearly the same technology. I am optimistic and hope this will be a good ride but when proposals like theming this to Woody start to pop up, I start to get a little angry and over react. This is an excellent opportunity to build an originally based ride. If an attraction has an obvious movie tie in and works well with the concept, use it. But don’t go out of your way to find one for every new one built, this situation just seems to be like that.

Phew! Just made it through this whole thread! My thoughts (and I know you ALL want to know!)

1. I'm thrilled DCA will recieve a new dark ride, and being interactive like Buzz..even better! For those who've never experienced "Pirates Of The Caribbean: Battle For Buckaneer Gold"...it's definately one of the best things to come out of DisneyQuest.

2. As far as the Woody theme, I see NO problem with it. Seaside amusement parks had rides based on ALL kinds of themes, so if you go with the true spirit of a carnival atmosphere like that, it WOULD embrace a wide range of themes, not just ocean/sea/beach themes.

3. Even though I love non-movie-based rides, I think dark rides work best when based on popular characters, especially with children. Hmmm...Disney did a non-movie-based dark ride....what was it called?...something LIMO?......

WDI has produced great things in the past and in the last 10 years years they have also produced some stinkers. AND not just at Disneyland or DCA. Dinoland USA at AK comes to mind.

YES, caused by limitations of budgets I'm sure. But remember that Imagineers are below the money people on the food chain and the people above them determine so much about what gets built.

Hopefully, with the new people at the top, Imagineers will be given the space to create great things again. Or at least someone will look at what they have already done seriously.

And, Iframedroger, if you really want to be an imagineer, better learn a lot about how to work in a power structure like WDI. Being successful there will have everything to do with your ability to work with people and navigate the political system and less to do with your great ideas. That's the unfortunate reality of organizations like Disney.

That's why armshair imagineering on=line is much more fun to me.

Agreed! Anyone who has actually ridden a dark ride at a pier would have to agree, especially when you're considering building it at a Disney park. I've ridden many pier dark rides, including way too many in England. They all left me wondering, "What the heck?" Kind of like SSL.

With the right people at the top now, I'm sure this ride will be a great addition to DCA. Monsters was a step in the right direction and that was before the big takeover.

The problem with the Woody theme is that this will make two interactive shooting attractions themed to Toy Story. In principle I don't have a problem with TS in the pier and it's great to see a new dark ride is planned, I just wish they could have come up with an interactive ride not based on Toy Story!

exactly

any other movie theme would be fine

and heck Woody is an old toy so he would almost match the old Pier setting I'd just perfer they didn't have two Toy Story shooters

I don't believe all dark rides need movie tie in's though but for what will likly be a lower level darkride (one on par with monsters, Roger and Buzz) I think a franchise pretty much is required as opposed to something on Pirates/Mansion's scale

fyi... i was replying to another person's comment about disney not having a animated hit during the last 5 years... had nothing to do with what i think should be in DCA.
