Just saw this mentioned on usenet, and think it would be interesting to look at:
http://www.anaheimgardenwalk.com/
So, is this to compete with DTD? That really makes no sense for them to build something that would take away from Disney. I would think they'd want to put things in that are not at DTD. Like maybe a Cinnabon, or perhaps a store catering to non-Disney sorts of things that I won't mention.
Expected to open 2007.

"The property is located between Disney's front gate to The Magic Kingdom and the new California Adventure, and Disney's newly announced Third Park."
Huh?

04-25-2006 12:34 PM #3I'll believe the garden walk is being built when I see the hat box ghost in the HM or when Disney's "newly annonced Third Park" gets built. There's been more delays building this than there have been starting the placemaking project for the DCA entry. I really like this blurb under the project summary:

Looks great though and it's within 100-200 yards of the park so it will clearly compete with DTD. I dare say it could do even better should they just offer some more "low end" or "low price" dining options.

^It sure caught my attention. Must be a typo.
I understand why this would be lucrative for the developers, you have a pretty huge draw next door. I disagree with it though and find it odd they are going head to head with DTD.

I stayed at the Super Eight on Katella this weekend and it sits adjacent to the proposed garden walk. The place is simply a field and an empty parking lot currenty. I asked the manager of the hotel what was going on and he said nothing but delay after delay. Originally it should have opened in 2004, so there have certainly been some delays.

It looks like once Anaheim and project developers got news about TDA's once proposed third gate they starting coming up with plans to take advantage of the possible foot traffic heading from the Main Entry Plaza to the third gate.
I think it's a great idea, that is if it is not in direct competition with DTD. Different kinds of stores and offerings could work with DTD and for Disney if they offer something different. I think this could be more of a direct hit to Garden Grove's plans than at Disney and is just trying to take advantage of future expansion in that one area. Plus it would be better for people making that trek between the parks.
Unfortunately, I don't think the planners ever got news that a third gate is very unlikely in the near future and looking doubtful after that. The only way we will see plans come back up is if there is some freakishly huge boost in the economy and everyone opts to go on vacations again with their new found money.Fabio (MagicWDI) | Cinderella is my favorite!

it really needs to just be cancled
it's too redundant to have with DtD already in the area (and the DtD expansion is supposed to happen right around when the GardenWalk is supposedly opening too)
they should really create offerings that Disney doesn't have for the area

Maybe Disney will buy up the property, if this really won't get built.

04-25-2006 01:29 PM #10I've been hoping for that for a while but from my understanding local land owners want more control and say in what happens in Anihiem and this is the city's way of throwing them a bone I guess

it's awfully tiny right now and there are hotels and other things on it's edges that should be gotten rid of to make the proporty more of a square and less of the bizzare shape it is now
