Lightbulb Should you be allowed to smoke at Disneyland?

I know this is a touchy subject but its something always on my mind....should people be allowed to smoke while at Disneyland?I know they have desinated areas to smoke but not everyone follows the rules....and when I let someone know about the are to smoke in instead of lighting up and walking Im all of a sudden a b**ch.I really dont like the smell and it gives me a migraine.I know DL is the happiest place on earth, but should it be the smelliest?

I don't think they should, people don't follow the rules and smoke outside the designated areas. I know when I was on the Walk In Walt's Footsteps tour our tourguide asked a few people to stop smoking. Personally I hate it too, the smell makes me gag. I can understand having a place for people to smoke, but they don't follow the rules. I say either ban it, or say "if you're caught smoking outside designated areas, out you go". It's kinda a touchy subject, I wish people would just kindly obey and be glad that there are disgnated areas.

I'm not a smoker so I may be a little biast but the way I see it:
    1) there are so many children, not to mention us adults who are subjected to 2nd hand smoke. While standing in line for a ride, theres not much escape from it.
    2) there are smoking areas, and I am totally cool with that. But people never seem to know about them or pay attention to them. I wish cast members would crack down on that a lot more but then I understand your comment about people getting hostile or bitter when you tell them to get their buts out.

Well, I voted no. We don't smoke, but we went bowling one night a few years ago with our son. And smoking was allowed there. Well, that's when we found out our son has asthma. And so far that's the only thing that ever triggered an attack. But what a horrible thing to find out!! I'm just glad that he's never had another attack. But thats because we are never around cigarette smoke.

So even though I know smokers probably feel that they have a right to smoke anywhere they want to, it does affect others. And its been proven to be harmful. So they should be considerate of others in this regard.

If everyone followed the rules the world would be a perfect place, unfortunitally that is not the case. I smoke and I do use the smoking areas. One reason you may see people smoking outside of the designated area is Disneyland and DCA keep moving them! The last time I was at the park in March it took me over an hour to find a CM that knew where the nearest smoking section is over by Tomorrowland. And I know the park inside and out. So as I was talking with others in our area I can fully understand why you may see some lighting up in a non area. In the past two years I have vacationed to DLR 3 times from Washington State and everytime the smoking area is in a different place. I go to light up and am informed this is not a smoking area...I ask where it is....I get a "I think" answer, so you roam all over the park trying to find it and can't so you ask another CM and they say it is over on the other side of the park...Hello....that is why people finally give up and light up. Now, the yahoos who stand in line and do this will get an earfull from me, if you can't find the smoking area I feel you should find an area off the beaten path where no one is, but out in the open where the crowd is at is uncalled for. I will now get down off my Soap Box, have a Disney Day!!

I almost disagreed with you Diane but that last bit of your comment was right on target. I agree with you whole heartedly.

The map you pick up at the entrance has a legend that includes smoking areas. Wether those are up to date or not is beyond me. But its a good start anyway.

Also, remember, Disneyland is an international destination. California has some of the most strict smoking rules around. In most places in this nation, and the world, smoking outdoors is proper and expected behavior. Most guests expect some sort of smoking regulation INDOORS, but not outdoors. I have found that the vast majority of times I have informed someone nicely about the rules, and where they could go to enjoy their cigarette, they said, I'm sorry, I didn't know, and put out the cigarette.

I happen to be a non-smoker, on the other hand, I have seen some guests become just crazy, and say some of the rudest things to people who have NO CLUE why this guest is screaming near-obscenities at them. No wonder people think Californian's are crazy.

I smoke *occasionally* (although never at Disneyland)

I voted no, but I think that smoking should be allowed at designated spots. If people would only look on their maps and look for a designated spot...

Well i voted no, but i understand and feel for the people that do smoke. Like Diane said many don't know about the areas and they have been moved around quite a bit. I believe the reason they do this is becuase tyhey are still trying to find the best place to do have them. some people don't stay inside the area and just mingle around it and most areas are near main walkways. Two of the areas that i think are in the wrong place are at DCA. One of them is between screamin qeueu and carousel. next to restrooms. Whoever came up with this area should be given some advice, do not place smokers next to a kids atraction, the other area is next to maliboomer in one of the busiest walkways, this is even worse. Dca's other three locations are great. One in the backroad of grizzley mountain, the other next to the propane tanks near soarin and the other next to hyperion. I was thinking of writing to Disney and suggesting one more location for Disneyland. Between the Mark twain qeue and the fry cart, there is a ramp that leads to an observation deck. I usually go up there to eat my fries and feed the ducks and watch the river but i would gladly give it up so that smokers could go up there and smoke. On one side you have the river on another a big shack on the other side trees and props and the side facing Thunder Mountain ismuch higher than the walkways since it is elevated perfect location i think.

Well, I am glad that the Propane tanks are just a prop (at least I HOPE SO....)

But I am not sure if that sends out the right message... Yeah, go over there, next to the fuel tanks and smoke....

The smoking area next to the Malibommer lasted less than a week, not a smart decision, place it right where the path narrows.... Oops....

And the observation area next to the fry cart is currently a smoking area (to replace the one on Big Thunder Trail). I presume that it is temporary until they finish the bridge work, and the BTMR rehab.
