A long time ago in a land not so far away,
there was to be a Disney center, in Long Beach, were a mouse could splash and play.
A theme park, more hotels, a new resort,
and even a stop for a cruise line of some sort.
The theme park of choice, oh could it be?
Disney was planning to put DisneySea.
The land was far and vast, 360 acres in fact,
but did the mouse look away and give it all back ('ct?)?
Do any of you know how this fairytale ends?
Will DisneySea only have Japanese friends?![]()
In other words, does Disney still own the land where Port Disney was going to be? Is there still a chance Disney could open this new port in the future? Help me out guys and fill me in on the whole thing.

What ever happened with Port Disney?

I think Long Beach killed the idea by not allowing it.
And then Anaheim wooed Disney over by paying for some improvements if they built a theme park in the old parking lot.
Don't quote me on that though.Just here. Nowhere.

Look in Part 2 of "California Misadventure" series in Jim Hill Media.

I thought it was just Disney playing hardball with Anaheim; if the city didn't work with them on the resort expansion, they would just build a new park down the road in LB. Don't know where I got that ieda from, could be complete hogwash.
Didn't Disney own the Spruce Goose or something?

I remember hearing at the time that Port Disney / Long Beach was just a rouse to get Anaheim to buy into all they wanted to do there. In other words, they were never serious about Port Disney / Long Beach, they just wanted to use the two cities to play off each other until they got all they wanted from Anaheim.

All I know is that there were some "regulatory hurdles"

Well, I'm *still* hoping that someday we'll get a Disney Cruise Lines ship out here. I want to be able to do a Disney cruise without having to go all the way back to Orlando. A ship terminal in Long Beach sounds perfect to me.
Please, please, please, please please, Disney?

Walcome SueinSac.
I was wishing the same thing. Hay we can wish together...
Plaese, please, please, please, please...
To me, Port Disney would be good for the DLR and for Long Beach. I hope Disney is still thinking about it

^^ Agreed. I was just watching a show on the Travel Channel this afternoon about the Disney Cruise Line and wishing the same thing.
Not holding my breath though.

04-20-2003 02:47 AM #10Thanks for the nice welcome, MagicWDI! (I haven't been reading this board very long, but I like the tone of things here. I don't post very often, but I like to hang around Disney websites and have been able to get to DL pretty regularly--for a Northern Californian--since before MSEP glowed away. I still have my Light Magic shirt and love to wear it in the park!)Originally posted by MagicWDI

Anyways, ITA with you. I know Disney is a business and all, but it seems to me that getting a DCL ship out here--as well as a west-coast version of the Disney Vacation Club--ought to be no-brainers. They want to make DL more of a destination resort, well, they'd sure make a lot more money off of my family! Buying five plane tickets to Orlando is pretty pricey from here, and hauling three little kids cross-country is no picnic either. But we'd be back on a Disney ship and buy into DVC in a heartbeat if they only offered them out here.
Hey, where are those Disney survey people when we need them? We can both give them some feedback!
